NBR but I hate the stigma surrounding benefits, my Facebook seems to be full of people slating those on benefits when they don't actually know the facts. Yeah there may be some people out there that enjoy sitting around and spend all of their benefits on drugs and alcohol but a lot of people don't. If I wasn't in a council property and receive housing benefit then I would be on the streets due to being fired unfairly at the beginning of my pregnancy. If I didn't receive income support I would have no heating, electricity or food. If I didn't get the £500 sure start grant then my daughter would not have clothes to wear, bottles to feed out of or anything to sleep in. I've hated not working, it's made me feel worthless, and will be going back into employment as soon as I possibly can. I have just read some teenage boy say 'people get benefits just for having kids and have kids for money'. Just? Raising children is possibly one of the hardest things to do, especially on low income or as a lone parent. Plus anyone can claim child benefit, working or not. You cannot raise children on nothing. I also hate the fact that people think those on benefits get more than those who work. I used to work full time on minimum wage in a very mundane job and would get almost £1000 each month at the age of 17. Now on benefits I get £200 a month (housing benefit is £200 on top of that). It will go up to just over £300 a month once my baby is born. My OH earns up to £1000 a month and I get £50 a month from him as he has a car to pay for and debts to pay off. So that £350 will have to cover food for the both of us, council tax, formula, nappies, electric, gas, water and any other baby supplies for the whole month. It is definitely not an 'easy ride' and I would much prefer to be in work but obviously I didn't have a choice. Sorry I seem to be in rage mode this week, needed to get that off my chest😂
unfortunately most of the negative comments surround the benefits system are from sound reasons. if u have a child, yes you will get benefits.
however, a 25 year old man for example who has a job and pays taxes will most likely not get any help from the government even if he barely scrapes by. I know many people who can't afford their own houses but get no help from her maj whatsover.
the problem is that it's all very one sided- if u r a woman with children it's pretty much guaranteed - or a refugee/asylum seeker. (not being racist just that's how it is)
a tax paying man however- forget it, no chance.
I work full time by the way and receive no benefits. I don't need them . I'm not trying to bash any one either. hope it didn't come off that way
