I was wondering if anyone has had the test for birth defects/Down syndrome done. I heard it comes with an ultrasound. On monday i went to get the gender check ultrasound and she was taking pictures of all the organs. Im just wondering if thats part of the test that i said no to and they were still doing it or if it's somethings normal that they do??

They check organs an baby's heart every ultrasound

A friend of mine did....it told her that her baby was at high risk for having Down syndrome....she's only 4 months and all she does is worry. 😰

I had a blood screening and ultrasound at 13 weeks that specifically looked for genetic abnormalities like Downs Syndrome and variations of Trisomy. At 20 weeks I had the anatomy scan (sounds like what you described) but I had blood work done before that one and they compared that ultrasound to the new blood work as well. @micky

No that test is totally different. This is a typical scan they do between 18-20 weeks to ensure all the organs are growing properly.

the "gender scan" is really an anatomy scan. that is when they check to see that everything is on track with your baby's growth. it's always done around 20 weeks, and is not to check for downs syndrome, it is to check that everything is on track. the gender is actually low priority at this scan, but it's always what we want to know the most!!

Thankyou ladies, im a first time mom and i tend to question everything. Im just glad it's something normal that happens at 20 weeks:)

It's a normal test they do, through blood work and ultrasound. it's not really optional. they have to know if your baby has any disorders so that they know to protect you and baby during pregnancy...

I guess i would have been ok if she had explained what she was doing (im ok with an anatomy scan) but she wasn't really explaining anything. I just had to make shure!
