Is it safe for baby to sleep next to you in bed or better if he sleeps in something like this?

I have fears of squishing them that would make me feel better

babies r us has Co sleepers under 100.. my daughter next to us in half sized pak n play but she also slept in bed w/ us.. so many cultures Co sleep etc..
