@leesh.b, If your doctor thinks your going to deliver early you should ask for steroid shots. My 34 weeker had it and needed no oxygen but my 35 weeker didn't and spent his first 3 weeks intubated and on oxygen. I'm 30 weeks now and I have a chronic abruption that slowly and randomly bleeds since 18 weeks and I've had 2 rounds of the shot(2 shots per round) so we are hoping to keep him in until 35 weeks and I'll be induced at 37 weeks of we make it there. I completely understand being ready to deliver. I've been in and out of the hospital the whole time and have horrible cramping from the abruptions so March can't get here soon enough. Good Luck with keeping baby in :)

I mean if your ob is saying medically your baby may need to come out for circumstance of pre-eclampsia then I'd take his word and let him do what he thinks needs to be done. but other than that. try to hang on as long as you can. I know being pregnant is rough. I'm 32 weeks tomorrow and my son gives me the most hell. but push through it there is no medical issues. baby still has some developing to do weight wise and a few other things. I'm over it. but I intend on keeping him in there til 40 weeks. she needs to not try to induce herself. it's still too early for her to be doing that and it can be dangerous as well @leesh.b

Babies born after 24 weeks have a chance at living but it improves with every week that goes by. The usual rule is they spend the remaining number of weeks to 40 in the nicu but some leave sooner depending on development. Any baby born before 37 weeks is considered a preemie but at my hospital they dont always have to go to the nicu unless they need help. I've had a 34 weeker who spent 9 days there and a 35 weeker who spent 24 days but he would have went reguardless of how many weeks he was.

it's not ideal to have a baby at 27 weeks

baby has a good chance of survival in the NICU under the watch of a medical staff at 26 weeks on up. but doctors will do whatever it takes to keep baby in the belly until 37 weeks by medications or shots of you're contractions are real contractions. anytime before 40 weeks your baby is considered a premie. and at that it can still be very dangerous for them to be out before full term @leesh.b

viable enough to where if you went into preterm labor they can function and still develop
