I've been hearing a lot of women lately not being able to produce enough breast milk for their baby. What can I do later on in my pregnancy (closer to birth) to increase my milk production? I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT want to formula feed (just my personal choice). Any ideas from breastfeeding moms or past breastfeeding moms?
be careful what you take to increase your supply so early. you don't regulate until about 6w pp. you don't want to cause oversupply. which I naturally have. and its just as tough and time consuming. definitely stay hydrated. anything with electrolytes will help that (smart water, Gatorade). eat high fatty foods (avocado, almonds, etc). steel cut oats.
I wasn't able to breastfeed my other kids, but this time around my milk actually came in and I'm able to breastfeed my daughter 😊 so things can change. Just try to feed as often as you can at first, it will take a few days for your milk to actually come in so don't give up.
make sure you drink plenty of water.. also you have to be stubborn while breastfeeding you have to get up every time baby gets up and feed and possibly pump. I know that's my plan.. alot of the supply stuff has to do with after baby is born.. however I take plexus products to help balance my hormones and it helps me be overall healthy and other mommies have said they have had an over abundance of milk while on it.. there are other natural supplements but Plexus is the best in my opinion..
I will definitely look into that then because I'm just so nervous I won't create enough milk. Thank you so much! @dflowers :)
I'm going to take any advice I can get and when I go in for my next appointment I plan on asking my doctor. Obviously if my baby doesn't latch, I'd still pump but I want to have the bond of actually breastfeeding :/ I've leaked a tiny tiny bit but it's only white liquid so idk :/ just worried
They helped a lot with me. My supply wasn't low but I needed to pump extra because i went back to school full time right after birth. My daughter hated formula with a passion, so I never supplemented and I think that helped too
I will be devastated as well, this is my last baby and I gave up with my first bc he wouldn't latch. Granted if she doesn't latch I plan on at least pumping as long as I can. But I just worry bc I haven't leaked at all. :(
@baileysmommy, my friend just gave birth about a month ago and she leaked for about 2 1/2 months before giving birth but produced only a teaspoon and had to give up because her baby lost 9 ounces in 24 hours and I will be absolutely devastated if I can't breastfeed :(
I was wondering the same thing, I'm started to get worried about milk bc I'm 30 weeks and I haven't even started leaking yet, and with my boys I was nonstop leaking by now.
@dflowers, did the fenugreek help your supply? And I plan on bringing a big gallon of water with me to the hospital (I know they have water but still lol) because I've heard you have to stay hydrated. I just have always wanted to breastfeed especially with this being my first and I hear a lot of mom's saying they had to give up because their supply was too low
There's not much you can do before you give birth. After birth make sure you're always hydrated and eat enough and let baby suck on your breast even if nothing is coming out because that is how they signal your body to make more milk. I took fenugreek pills after birth to increase my supply along with other natural ways.
Thank you ladies for all the advice!! I really appreciate it:) @_akgirl @aphrodite2014 @graciesmom2016
