I saw an article today about the benefits of delayed cord clamping at birth. I've never heard of it before but I do know with my last 3 kids they clamped and cut the cord pretty much as soon as they came out. Has anyone heard anything about it or had it done with their baby?
@csp0355, my dr told me no because they wanted to get me put back together and out of surgery. @babyvicky2016 definitely insist on it because some Drs are just lazy and want it done faster so they will say it's not beneficial
I also read that they can wait to clamp it if you have a csection but they may have to "milk" the cord to get all the benefits
I haven't mentioned it to my doctor yet but plan to at my appointment next week. Did your doctors agree to waiting? @tara @sarahemccormick
I have heard of it and want to do it with my baby. But my doctor insisted there was no benefit to waiting more then 45 seconds. This kind of upset me and in the hospital I am going to insist they wait 2 minutes. That is how long they say it takes for it to stop pulsating. k @jadestarlight @sarahemccormick @santistevanmommie @tara.k
I've heard about it and if I hadn't of had a c section I would have done it
I'll be doing it with mine. We're going to wait until it's finished pulsating before clamping. The first paragraph of this link gives a good summary of why...

I am choosing to have that done with this baby. Never heard about it up until recently, but its definitely something I want to do now that I know all the benefits.
I'm doing an all natural home birth and the woman assisting is a huge advocate of waiting.
