Does anyone have any experiences with the council and noise from the neighbour's? I've kept a diary of times and what levels of noise when I think it's unreasonable. I've also made some recordings for my council officer. They have their tv really loud (surround sound) until 2am keeping me awake, allow their heavy dog to play inside creating very loud bangs and throwing things around, have late parties etc. I was very laid back at first and decided to leave them be until baby is born when it'll be important but this morning was the last straw when my boyfriend and I were woken up at 9:30 by extremely loud and bass-y music directly above us (they are aware our bedroom is there). They wouldn't answer the door when we knocked or respond to our banging on the ceiling. OH had been on a 10pm-6am and has not since been able to get back to sleep and had to go back to work just now on 3 hours sleep. I struggle to sleep obviously at this stage so have had about 3 hours myself too. I'm usually awake around 6am but was lucky enough to sleep in a bit. I know that it is not illegal but it's very inconsiderate. It happens regularly but I'm usually awake so wasn't too fussed. I am hoping that the council will do something about it because the neighbour's are not approachable at all. I need it to be resolved before baby is born as it could bring on PND because the noise makes me very anxious and scared (when they throw stuff it makes me jump and the shouting/swearing) especially when OH isn't here.

Actually it IS illegal. There is a decibel (noise) level that is considered the limit. If they're making noise at ANYTIME of the day and it is beyond the limit then they can be evicted. You need to phone up the council etc and tell them about it. They'll send round someone with a decibel monitor and if what is recorded is too high then your neighbours will get a warning. Also, the law states you cannot make exceptionally loud noise between the hours of 11pm and 8am so if they're playing music loudly at 2am, they're in breech of that X

I was discussing that with OH. He said there was nothing we can do because people get up around that time but I said it was ridiculously loud so surely there must be something. My heart sank when I woke up because I knew I wouldn't be able to get back to sleep. It's so hard for me to get enough sleep now so it's so unfair. They're not nice people at all and have been very harsh towards us over parking and trivial things. They've even had the cheek to ask us to move the car from in front of the flat. I have bad SPD and use crutches. We once had to park over the other side of the grass mound in the middle of our culdesac (they had parked three of their taxis out front) so it took me a while to struggle over and they came out and laughed at us, called us d*ckheads and went back inside😡 x

You need to look into the noise thing. What they're doing is definitely illegal. I made a point of googling it via the gov websites. It's definitely NOT on, to play music loudly between 11pm-8am and people can get fined for it. It's a breach of disturbing the peace or something X

I think you can Contact environmental health google it but I think they deal with noise, they will take your account and write to your neighbours and ask you to keep a log, it it continues they can be fined and even be evicted or forced to move.

I used to have the same problems with my neighbours and my housing association was pretty lenient on them, instead every time they made excessive noise I called the environmental health and they sent members of the noise pollution team out, they normally work up until about 3am and when they'd have their parties I called them out every time and they threatened them with removing their stereo and whatever she was using to make the noise. the council would then report them to my housing association every time they had to come out and eventually they were evicted 😁 thank God!! I became so depressed they literally made my life hell and enjoyed it, she even sent her bd to come and threaten to throw me down the stairs when I complained.
I think you should speak to your local noise pollution team and see if they can help xx
