"This is an experiment with car seat covers that we did to prove how unsafe aftermarket accessories are on children/infant car seats. The left is a Graco factory car seat cover the right is a minky car seat canopy for thecarseatcanopy.com we also made a video. The Graco took almost a minute to start a flame and was out in under a minute. The car seat canopy lit almost immediately and was completely melted in under 4 minutes. Our video has been viewed 14k times on facebook and climbing and shared over 300 times. Is there any way we can bring more awareness to the dangers of using flammable materials on CHILDREN seats?"
those cute aftermarket carseats covers could mean the difference between life or death for your child in a wreck. Flame retardant carseat covers provide you with precious time to save your children that you wouldn't have with an aftermarket product. what's more important? your child's life? or having a "cute carseat?

So I bought one of those covers for like the top of the car seat to block baby from the cold air. The original cover of the car seat is staying on it. Is that okay?

@mommaheathco, the canopy's are something that are the mothers discretion BUT, most carseats do ban the use of anything hanging on carseat handles while the car is in motion (like canopy's and toys). as long as you take it off before you start driving it's fine. if your carseats manufacturer does not ban the use of things on the handle while vehicle is in motion then always be aware that it's a serious fire hazard, so should you get into a wreck and there's a fire you would need to turn around instantly and rip off the canopy before it could catch fire.

Okay thank you. I'll make sure to take it off before driving. It's only two little latches so it should be fairly easy.

@mommaheathco, that's is why we say the canopy's can be safe but not the carseat covers. a canopy can easily be ripped off, a carseat cover can't.
