okay so my son is 5 days old. he is sleeping the day away but when it comes to night time he screams to no avail n nothing calms him down any suggestions?
another thing that worked with my son (sounds crazy) but a mom of 5 told me about. put your shirt you wore for the whole day in the bassinet and either lay him on it or swaddle him in it. if baby smells you he will be more calm and it kind of tricks him lol I thought it was crazy but it worked :)
also pick him up and have him face down in your hands and take his right arm cross over his left and shake his booty a little it helps the baby calm down
yes what @akelly16 also said. if your baby likes swaddling it works wonders. also skin to skin does great.
I had this problem with my baby when he was born... he's probably still adjusting try keeping him swaddled tight at night and if he's just crying uncontrollably do skin to skin with him at night to keep him calm. skin to skin was the ONLY thing that would get my baby to sleep at night and stop his crying...I would hurry up and swaddle him in the blanket we laid under and put him in his bassinet and it seemed to work. good luck
@nicemmcha2015, lol. You beat me to it.
@jessicakilgore92 keep doing what you're doing. Baby is still probably on whatever schedule he was on in utero (you lulling him to sleep during the day with movement, active at night). Stick with his schedule for a little longer then I'd start doing more day time stuff more loudly lol.
It'll take a while before baby gets a sense of night and day. it sucks big time.. but it's normal and gets better. I promise. hang in there.
Oh for the love of Jesus don't put rice cereal in the kids bottle. look up virgin gut and that'll explain that. Good for you on breastfeeding it's a challenge for some in those first few weeks. my friend did her child that way and when she got older. . like 2 years old.. she had to be sent to a specialist because she screwed her kids stomach up using that junk way too early. her food wouldn't digest and when she pooped it looked the way it did when she swallowed it. plus rice cereal is nothing but empty calories and can make your kid fat. not baby fat. unhealthy fat.
ohh well you could pump and try it. mine were that young too when I started my children are just fine and never had belly issues but every kids different too so idk lol
I don't bottle feed. only breastfeed. but rice at his age can give him stomach problems because he's too young. @february2016
I put tinny tinny bit of rice in my kids bottles at night to keep them a sleep a bit longer. they say don't do that but it's never hurt my kids at all.
but he's still a newborn. I try to keep him awake after his feeding but he goes into a dead sleep to the point I can pick up his arm and drop it and no reaction at all. I try wiping him down with wipes to wake him but it doesn't help either. during the day its useless to keep him up.
try keeping him up during the day by playing with him or just waking him and stuff.
try to get him on a routine. keep him up during the day for a few hours at a time and once it hits about 4pm keep him up till about 8 and he will be really tired and sleep till he's hungry
thank you everyone for the advice definately going to be trying most of these options. also what foods should I avoid since I will be strictly breastfeeding? I don't want to cause more strain on his stomach
