This might be an unpopular opinion so I'm sorry if I offend anyone but I see so many posts about people wanting to try to induce their labor at home and I really think we should be patient and wait for labor to come naturally. Until you are overdue meaning over 40 weeks of gestation you should not be trying to induce labor Unless you have a health reason which in that case your doctor would take it into their hands to induce the labor. I know it's hard because you're sick of being pregnant and you just want your baby but really at 36,37,38 weeks you honestly should wait to see if labor will start on its own.

@krista115, that is a medical reason and like I said in my original post is not the same thing. You couldn't help that and didn't intentionally try to kickstart labor yourself

my first born was born at 37 weeks via emergency c section cause he had iugr ( intrauterine growth restriction) he weighed 5lb 4 oz and 17 inches long. he was not in nicu and we got to go home on time.

yeah I get what you mean, I totally understand wanting to be done cuz your miserable, I was there at 36 weeks, but I was at least determined to try and make it to 37 weeks. if it was just one baby I woulda gone as long as they needed. people want it over but when their baby is in the NICU they wish they had gone longer, I couldn't imagine seeing my babies in there cuz of something I did, it would kill me. but if it was outa my control that's different like you said but if I caused it, I'd be devastated

@twinmamma2015, @mommagotbump16 the point is you tried to allow your babies to stay in there as long as they need to. If there's a medical reason you can't help that but trying is what's most important. Not just trying to induce yourself because you're tired of being pregnant

well yeah, if it weren't for the fact that that I would have been risk for losing one or both babies I honestly think I would have gone 40 weeks, like I think the boys were happy and didn't wanna come out. I was trying to make as long as I could though

my winmamma2015, also that falls under medical reasons. I'm talking about a single baby with no reason to induce trying to start labor themselves

Some people don't though. A lot of people still think that even having twins and not going full 40 weeks means they're not full term. If I'm wording that correctly

Exactly. We induced because my husband was leaving for training a week after my due date. So we waited for me to go past, then we didn't feel comfortable with me by myself going that far past it. I would've rather gone into labor on my own. @sweetlove94

@twinmamma2015, I consider twins to be a completely different situation

My high risk docs won't deliver twins any sooner than 37 weeks but no later than 38 weeks. Their lungs are fully developed but if you go past 38 weeks you run a high risk of the babies hurting themselves or running out of room and accidentally clamping off their cords. I had my boys at 37 weeks and 1 day. They are 100% healthy and never went to the NICU. They were born on a Friday night and we were all home by Sunday around noon. Regardless of what people say according to my doc, the boys pediatrician and my local WIC office they all consider my boys full term. Not trying to argue or start problems, but when I see posts saving my boys "weren't born full term" it bugs me because they were according to the medical staff that delivered them and their doctor.

My daughters both came before their due date but I did absolutely nothing to try to go into labor. If I went overdue I wouldn't induce unless absolutely necessary. I like to let my body decide when it's time @mommagotbump16

@sweetlove94, agreed! I've seen so many moms with nicu babies after they tried to induce their labor on their own. 😞 Plus, due dates aren't exact. My son was "overdue" by 3 days, but he was perfectly developed when he was born. I couldn't imagine what would've happened if he was two weeks early!

Let's not get technical @mimiz 40 weeks from the day of your last period is a full pregnancy

When we are 40 weeks we are technically 38 since the first two weeks are ovulation and conception weeks..
