I got a letter in the mail from my dr office and I just read it and it says "if you are pregnant and this is your initial visit in our office for this pregnancy your appointment is scheduled to be with one of our clinical support staff." What does this even mean? So I won't be able to see a dr at my first appointment? I'm nine weeks and I can't keep anything down. Not even my vitamins. I throw everything up. I really was wanting to see a dr and get a sonogram also to make sure everything is okay. Has anyone else had something similar to this for their first appointment?

yeah my first prenatal checkup was a confirmation of my pregnancy and family history and pee test it was really fast maybe because where I live I got to see my OB but it happens to be she's my regular doctor anyway. and 9 weeks is a little early it sounds like for an ultrasound and my prenatals made me sick so I switched to Flintstones gummies they have all the same thing prenatals have just ask your doctor before taking them. mine said it was fine but everyone is different

I saw a nurse my first appointment too. They drew blood to confirm my pregnancy and I told her I was nauseous and she got the dr to write me a prescription. The next day when my blood work came back they called to schedule an ultrasound appointment

During this pregnancy (I decided to see a different Doctor this time, different hospital as well). I was told that I would be seeing the Nurse Practitioner at my first appointment (12W4D), she was very nice and I got an ultrasound done at the appointment as well! :)

4 weeks later at my next appointment I got to meet my regular Doctor! :)

Side note: same nurse practitioner gave me nausea mess and suggestions on how to get over nausea and the vitamin issue. Those are common issues for most pregnant women.

Ditto to everything above. I met with a nurse practitioner (mine really knew her stuff!) and was scheduled for an u/s later that day. A doc doesn't usually do the ultrasound for you anyways.

usually the very first is a visit to get your history and lots and lots of questions. you can bring up any concerns and maybe a Dr might see you. they did my history and stuff over the phone because I was high risk with diabetes and I needed to be seen sooner.

I had to be seen by the general community clinic for a pregnancy test before I could be seen by the OB/?GYN and get an ultrasound.
