how many days do they keep you in the hospital after you have baby? my boyfriend's mother is convinced I don't need to pack a damn hospital bag bc I won't be there longer than a day.

I delivered on a Monday and didn't leave till Wednesday. I had a vaginal birth but I pushed for an hour before I had my daughter

I stayed 48 hours, but I had a vaginal birth with no complications, baby was latching well, and he wasn't circumcised. Any complications or surgeries will probably lengthen your stay.

My FIL was the same way... My hubby was asking if he had any slippers around the house that he could borrow for the hospital bag and his dad was like "I don't know why your worrying so much and packing a bag, you'll only be there a day" and blah blah blah. Hubby tried to tell him that wasn't the case and we were going to be there for 2 days on the post partum floor and he didn't believe him so I looked it up on their website and in one of the information pamphlets it clearly stated all women will be in the post partum room for 2 days if smooth delivery, 4 days if c-section. So my that made my FIL quiet.

yeah that's another reason I really feel the need to pack one. one of my birth plans is a c section if it's absolutely needed. for now it's still a vaginal birth and I'm only 29 weeks but If for some reason I need a c section. I told my ob to do it and I won't argue. @taniell123

@their.bomb.ass.mom, she's ignorant all the time when it comes to me and my pregnancy. but when it comes to her daughter and her pregnancy it's all "awe!" or informative for her. meanwhile me and her son are just like.. "we wanna be prepared. is it needed to be this rude all the time? "

They never really taught me anything, but when you're discharged they go over a bunch of stuff with you. But they keep you so long because they have to make sure everything is going back how it should, and you aren't bleeding excessively, and make sure babies vitals are good, they just have to have a lot of information that has to be monitored over a certain number of hours, and if you or baby have any complications you end up staying longer sometimes, sooooo she can shut her face. 😂😂😂 idc if I was staying at the hospital for a day anyways, I'd still pack stuff. she's kinda ignorant for saying that.

@their.bomb.ass.mom, that's what I was swearing. all of my friends who had their babies were there for at least 2-3 days. and since I live an hour away from my hospital I don't just see them handing me a baby and saying "okay. see ya" I mean.. if it's your first child don't they teach you some things while there too? I'm sure it all cant ve covered in a day!

Pack a hospital bag ! Better to have it & not need it , then to not have one & wish you did , lol

I work in a hospital and it's required you stay the 48 hours after you deliver the baby. They are really strict about it

Typically 24 hours after the baby is born , but it depends on how the baby is when their born , of for any reason there's any complications , like not eating , medical , won't go to the bathroom , anything , they will keep you longer to make sure baby is okay

with my first baby I was admitted on a Thursday, had her at midnight on Friday, and the left Sunday. So yeah, and I had a normal, smooth labor. Definitely need a bag, unless you're like down the road from your hospital. 😂 Usually you stay 2-3 nights.
