Okay something has been irritating me the past couple days.. I work in a children's hospital.. I reciently had a parent tell me that people no longer use bases for infant carseats.. I just want to know if that's a new trend or if she was just as undeserving of her kids as we all thought.. regardless my baby will be in an appropriate carseat installed with the base but just curious
@mommaz, they also now have carseats that stay in the car and rotate around when they get bigger. that's an option because i know i have to move seats around when I'm installing my 3 in my small SUV...I have a Chevy Captiva and I have to either put the rear facing in the missile seat or move the passenger seat/my seat up.. I install 2 forward and 1 rear for now about to be 3 forward and 1 rear.. unfortunately my car won't hold all 4 properly so I'll probably be getting a new one or we will be taking 2 cars every where
@mommaz, it should fit in the middle hump if not the passenger seat should be able to be moved forward and it fit just fine... @alusardi there is nowhere thay says it's safe to install a carseat without a base. it says that's it's safe to install the base with either the seat belt or the anchored straps that come with it
Instal with the seatbelt is just as safe and in most cases safer than using the latch system with a base. Iron Facebook I follow a page that's car seat for littles and its run by techs and professionals and they confirm that all the time for moms. It's perfectly fine. But to each their own :)
@mrshumphries, with properly secured carseats and proper use of the belts I actually witnessed a wreck that the only one that survived was a 3 yr old because she buckled her own seat belt in a carseat that was property installed.. she wasn't completely fine but she was alive
I'm not concerned with labor and birth, but I'm so paranoid about the 30 minute drive home :(
@mrshumphries, it kills me too we won't send parents home without proper use of these thing.. I worked EMS and saw first hand what a wreck with a improperly restrained infant can do to not just the child but the family the first responders EMT'S and paramedics and the whole line of people who come in contact with it.. i refuse to be the cause of someone's bad dreams or PTSD...@abelsmama, I realize that 10 or more years ago carseats where not as safe and I mean hell seat belt laws where just really coming into play... but it's 2016 there are laws and regulations for carseats hell there are even special classes that certify people to install carseats..
When my Mom had my little brother who is now 11 they didn't use or even have a carseat base. It went through the bottom portion of the actual seat.
@mommaz, no problem
