I misunderstood the process of getting my breast pump via insurance, and now will not have it at the time I give birth. I should have within 5 days or so after. I want to breastfeed, but not exclusively by nursing. I intend to also pump and bottle feed so my husband is also able to feed her and bond. Do they have pumps for while you are in the hospital? And if I do end up having to wait a week or so to have my pump, will there be issues getting her to then take a bottle as well after only nursing for a week? Eek, I'm a FTM and have not prepared myself enough in terms of breastfeeding 😣

@kmlac7, Your very welcome. This is my third baby and each time I've had the babies at different hospitals in three different states. So I feel like it new everytime, I ask tons of questions always.

@babynumberthree, Oh that's great. I will definitely ask about that. I'm delivering at a hospital on an Army post and through all of my experiences so far, they seem to do and give bare minimum so I'm not expecting much but definitely wont hurt to ask :) Thank you!

@kmally, Oh, wow! I didn't know about waiting to pump! Like I said I am so unprepared and unfamiliar with anything to do with breastfeeding, and time kind of snuck up on me 😣 So I really appreciate the input and advice, lol. I will definitely check out that site. Thank you for suggesting it. Its been overwhelming trying to find a good one since there are so many and so many different views/opinions. Thank you mama!

I got told my hospital I'm going to gives you a hand pump if you talk to them. So ask yours if they do anything like that while your there.

Hospitals have them that you can use. Typically, to establish your supply, it's best to wait until 4-6 weeks after baby is here to start pumping--but obviously it's completely up to you. You can introduce a bottle at any time--some babies have a hard time going back and forth between breast and bottle so that's something else you'll have to look into. Go to the Kellymom website and look around and do some research :) it's my favorite resource for pumping/breastfeeding/parenting! All research backed!

You could also get a cheap manual pump to buy time! The baby will be fine!

Quick question to breast feeding mum i would like to breast feed my baby when she comes as I’ve never really breast fed my other 2, is it uncomfortable also how is pumping out milk????? For bottle feeds is the pump uncomfortable... I would normally just breast feed and not pump when home but I do drive so when I’m out and can’t stop I’ll have to use a bottle...I remember trying to breast feed my youngest and I keeped getting milk ducts why was that??? I think that’s why I gave up as I was scared lol

I can't take it anymore! Haley (yes my 1mth old and no I wasn't able to go through this "joy" of nursing my older daughter, Molly) has been screaming non stop for 6hrs! All she wants to do is eat and I can't have her attached to me all day, everyday! She has wanted to eat every hr on the hr for the past 3hrs! I put her in her room so I don't scream at her but I just can't take it!

Pumping I hate pumping. It's damn near impossible with a newborn and an almost 3 yr old. But my lo isn't gaining weight so I have to pump and bottle feed after every nursing session. So I breastfeed for 45 min (nurse, burp, change diaper, nurse, burp), bottle feed an extra ounce, then pump for 10-15 min. And do it all again next time. And lo does not like to sleep or be put down. How on earth do I do this?

Just sitting in the nursery at 4:47am crying. Since we have been supplementing formula due to her losing weight I have to pump. I hate it. I am about ready to quit breastfeeding. I woke up 4 hours after pumping to my breasts engorged, which is what I wanted 24 hours ago. But now it hurts like someone is stabbing my breasts and nipples. My nipples hurt so bad that every suction makes me want to scream. I am bawling my eyes out. I cried for hours today thinking about not being able to nurse her anymore, but pumping f&$%ing kills me. I even tried to nurse her to relieve some of the pressure but her latch made me jump and I had to pull her off. Pumping makes my breasts hurt SO MUCH WORSE!! They told me at 2 weeks my breasts would be tougher, they told me at 2 weeks the pain would subside, lies. Its like the hospital all over again the non stop pain and tears. I want to quit breastfeeding right now. Happy effing birthday to me.
