Hey moms, my newborn (3 weeks old) is starting to worry me and I wanted your opinion. When she's sleeping she'll suddenly start making these loud strained squeaking noises, like she's having trouble breathing in, but there's no feeling or sound of rattling in her lungs or anything else suggesting a reason for trouble breathing. Is this something that you've experienced and is normal?

my daughter does this as well. our doc and therapist(speech, my daughter has swallowing issues) said its her strider. which basically means that her esophagus sort of collapses by the vocal cords. its not dangerous. and kiddos usually grow out of it.

Our son was doing the same thing then started coughing, we took him to the doctor and he has a cold. It's nothing serious, but they recommended a humidifier and told us to take him back in if he starts weezing badly or runs a fever. It's been going around; his father and I are sick as well

Thanks :) I'll have to get one and some peppermint oil.

I'm not sure if it's normal but we just experienced the same thing with our baby (also 3 weeks old) she started doing that and a few days later got congested and developed a cough... We took her to the doctor and he said as long as she was still eating and no fever then she was okay just a little congested so we bought a humidifier and put a little bit of diluted peppermint oil (it's supposed to help breathing) and that has helped... Not sure if your baby will end up congested (hopefully not!) but a humidifier either way is awesome if you don't already have one
