Currently pregnant with my second. with the first, bf did not work because he was jaundiced so would fall right to sleep plus wouldn't latch right. tried everything to help. I ended up pumping for him until he was 3 months then decided it was too much so quit. I also had to be back at school a week after I delivered so I had to supplement. this time around, I will be done with school. I also had inverted nipples so I had to use a shield which I HATED. I was the first one to bf in my family and was discouraged. that is already happening again. any advice on how I can fix mu inverted nipples and be able to bf this one? thanks.

It helps to pump a little bit before a feed to elongate your nipples, then baby should be able to latch easier...at least so I've read! I'm sorry the best advice I could give would be just not to give up! Go see a lactation consultant to help, and don't fall into the pit of using a nipple shield because the baby gets too used to it then won't latch to the breast....It's hard, but you can do it! It's so worth all the struggle, don't let yourself get discouraged! And honestly if it doesn't work out again after giving it your best efforts, it's not the end of the world! At least you tried your best, and that's what matters, is that you try and do what's best for your baby 😊 Formula is a godsend for reasons like this, if you really can't continue to breastfeed imagine if you didn't have formula??

I agree with the other comment above. I also recommend reaching out to your Local La Leche League through Facebook or there 800 number to find free local meetings in your area.. I started going each month toward the end of my pregnancy (this way I'd have help and advice even before I had my son) it also made it sooo much easier for me to reach out when I needed help the first few weeks (since I already met some of the members), I would not still be breastfeeding if it wasn't for their help. I'm so glad I stuck with it! Whenever I wanted to give up, I'd just Google "breastfeeding benefits" and read about all the different health benefits not only for baby but for mom as well!! I wish you the best and remember some breastmilk is better than none, just do your best and don't beat yourself up if it doesn't go exactly how you want... Also try to sound yourself with positive people who will support your choice to breastfeed. I had family that wasn't exactly supportive.. when they questioned everything I did, I just tried to remain calm and said "this is what we are doing and it is working for us, please be supportive". When they kept asking me how will I know if he's getting enough.. I knew that he was having plenty of pee and poop diapers so he was definitely getting what he needed. That's what helped me, hopefully this time is easier for for you :)
