honestly, how do I know the difference between Braxton hicks and real contractions?
apparently I've been having real contractions, I'm dialated 2cm, but they've never hurt or been uncomfortable.
I have what I think are Braxton hicks every 6-10 minutes throughout the whole day.
with my daughter I never had Braxton hicks and never dialated early, when I went into labor I was never in any pain at all, I just noticed my stomach tightening and timed my contractions. I was told I wasn't in labor and to stay home, but my contractions had been 2-3 minutes apart for 2 hours so when I showed up to the hospital I was already 5cm and in active labor but absolutely no pain at all.
soo how do I know if I'm in labor if I've never actually felt it before?

Braxton hicks, only the front of your belly gets tight and it's uncomfortable. contractions, you'll feel pressure in your vagina and your back and stomach will bet cramps and tighten at regular intervals, gradually getting stronger and closer together

I honestly don't know the difference. I was 1.5cm dilated on a Friday and then on Monday was 5cm. I felt nothing just a little uncomfortable. It's annoying not knowing.

@arijane316, with a lot of my Braxton hicks I feel it down in my vagina, but no cramping, and nothing in my back (as far as I know)
I've always credited the pain in my junk to the BH pushing the baby down against my cervix.
maybe I just have to high of a pain tolerance to feel the pain I'm supposed to have in my back and stomach.

the BH don't push the baby down, they just contract your belly muscles to prepare you for real contractions. so you're probably in labor and just can't feel the pain. it's really not that uncommon

@arijane316, the BH I've had the last month or so push my belly downwards.

@jessiethelesbiann, it makes me feel like I'll be in labor and not know it, and I'm 45 minutes from my hospital (if traffic isn't backed up like it always is.) so I feel like I'll end up stuck in traffic when I'm really far along in active labor, or I'll have to go to this hospital down the street and I HATE this hospital with a passion.

hmm I've never heard of BH pushing it down. they're just supposed to tighten it
