How bad is it to buy a used car seat for babies? I'm on a very limited income and really can't afford 2 brand new car…

As long as you know the seats history and can check to make sure there are no recalls it is perfectly safe. I have a used infant seat

well they say u shouldnt cus u dont knpw if that car seat has been in an accident and if it has and u get in an accident with bby it may not have the durance it should have because ots has already been in a previous accident. i gpt a used one cuz i could afford a new one. just check the experation date on it befor buying it thats wat i did. u can alsp checl with hospital pr ur insurance cus some offer a free car seat if u take prenatle classes. im gonna do one to get a new car seat from them

I'd say only but from second hand stores if you pain to do that... and if you can't afford one usually there is help I've seen people get brand new carseats because they couldn't afford it from different social services places. I'd talk to the case worker at the hospital you plan to deliver to see if there are any options or your obgyn.

@aguardado, @callumsmommy @theirmommy_2 @erica0519 Thanks ladies. When I had my son I had his father around to help so I was able to afford new. Not so much now and both babies need car seats ASAP

@kerragannicole, that actually probably your best bet. there are alot of resources out there.. I work in the nicu and have seen many of parents of multiples get carseats because they couldn't afford them or the ones they had where too old.

@kerragannicole, your not alone I promise! it's better to ask for help in these situations then have the possibility of ending up with a used carseat that may have been in a wreck or that's expired or who knows where it's been.. they can typically help you with alot of these things if you ask for it. I know our case workers at the hospital (not cps) find every way imaginable to help people out who need it and are patients or going to be..

if you have state insurance they will give you a free one! I was sent one but we decided to get a different one.
