I also second previous posters advice that baby will have the natural instinct to latch on, they will almost immediately begin "rooting" or searching for your breast, holding your breast like a sandwich (making your areola sort of oblong), graze your nipple from tip of baby's nose to their chin and wait for them to open wide, that is key, and quickly shove your breast in. It shouldn't hurt, if it's painful slide your pinky into baby's mouth to break the latch. You may have to do it a couple times to get the timing just right, baby's mouth has to be just right. They will look like little fishy lips if latched correctly and you won't see any nipple. You will most likely see areola still and depending on how large your breasts are you may have to hold your breast in that sandwich shape until baby gets a bit bigger and better at latching on their own.

Your nipples will most likely get tender at first but it will ease if your baby latches correctly. What hurt the most was when my milk came in I got super engorged and my breasts were rock hard. Other than that I just hand expressed a little milk and rubbed it on my nipples when they were feeling even slightly dry and I would go topless from time to time to let them air out. I never had any issues with cracking or bleeding (they sell lanolin for that though). Good luck! It's totally worth it

A few of my friends who have breastfeed said it hurts a little at first but once baby does it a few times it starts to ease. I can't say from personal experience yet, but lactation consultants have told me it shouldn't continue to hurt unless the latch isn't correct.

It hurts at first because your nipples have to get tougher. The baby had the natural instinct to latch but you might have to help just a little bit. It takes about 2 weeks for you 2 to get comfortable with it. But don't let that scare you away. I'm sure you know that Breastmilk is the best for baby.Even if breastfeeding doesn't work like with some women still pump! You can still feed your baby your milk from a bottle! But the feeling that you have when you are feedimg the baby with something your own body made... you cannot compare it to anything.

Every one is deferent and for me it did hurt. Not right away but after the first couple days I was feeding my son constantly and they just got really sore. They have cream that you can use or by squeezing out some breast milk and leaving it on there to dry really helps and soon all pains goes away completely! My baby was easy to latch from the very first time! They tend to be very sleeping after birth but to be successful you should try to feed him right away, whenever he is willing! If you touch his nose and then his lips with your nipple he should open his mouth wide enough for you to put it in his mouth. For a good latch your entire nipple has to be in his mouth, you shouldn't be able to see any of it. The better the latch, a lot less pain! It's challenging but so worth it! I'm two months in and my son and I are inseparable and I'm always the one who can calm him and comfort him best.
