so I'm breastfeeding but if there comes a point he doesn't want it, what do I do? do I go buy any kind of formula at the store or? just wondering in advance.
nothing. just let her work it out herself. she won't take a bottle I mean she'd nurse but for 2 min at the most only 4 times a day which is not her. hers was a growth spurt, I took her to the Dr to get her weighed to check in a couple days but after her apt she went back to normal
@hellokarly, thank you! @steph11 aww what did you give her in the meantime?
I believe most peds say after 1 year. We never did cows milk. He breastfed until 15 months and he does sippy cups with water now. We just make sure he eats dairy through yogurt, cheese, etc.
or if he does not want it. it's just a nursing strike and it'll end I'm a few days at the most or maybe a growth spurt. Sadie wouldn't really eat for almost a week and she's back to being a champ
@kmally, okay my baby was just born yesterday but I wanted to know ahead. so at what age are they able to drink cow/goat milk?
You could try pumping and giving it to him by bottle, but I heard enfamil has newborn formulas though!
There really shouldn't be a time that he "doesn't want it". If you mean in the future when he's older you may want to wean him from the breast, depending on his age you could pump and bottle/cup feed breast milk, if old enough you could switch to cow/goat milk or even just water.
Nursing strikes are totally normal. Especially during spurts or a 'leap' which is where they make a huge mental leap with different abilities in a short time period. If you ever struggle in the beginning and it seems like he doesn't want to latch or eat, that is different and you should ask for help before switching to anything else because it could be horrible for their tummies. A lactation consultant (not just the one at the hosp, most dr's have them too) can be your best friend during the first few months. Good luck and congrats mama :)
