@tara.k, for the longest time I also thought it was something you have to do. My husband is foreign and not circumcised as its not common practice in other country's like it is here. Anyway i asked him "if our baby's a boy do you want him circumcised" and the hilarious thing is he didn't even really know what it was so I started describing it to him and the "benefits" you shoulda seen how horrified he was..like to him it was unbelievable because it wasn't something he was conditioned to find normal. That's what caused me to start researching and changed my mind about everything

Thanks for sharing! When we first met our midwife my hubby and I assumed if it's a boy we need to get him circumcised. When we asked her about it she said she recommends we do our research. Best advice ever! That one comment has opened our eyes to a world of things we assumed we are supposed to do, but now know we don't have to or want to.

@ashley_abby20, see that's why I try to share stuff about it not to attack people who have done it but because I want them to research and see what it really is. Like you said you didn't really understand what it was and if you did you probably wouldn't have done it. I'm sure there's plenty other moms that wouldn't of done it either if they really understood. But I'm glad you saw that atleast you know for future reference.

@elenasmommy, Omffggg I just saw the video on how the circumcision is done on a baby if I knew what they did I would have never let my son go through that but now it's too late...and he got it done perfect an has no problems an is always clean down there but still I'm thinking like.....😷

@alyen2, nobody's bashing you you came on an anti circumcision post and stated a bunch of stuff that's not even true... 177 is enough for me to not risk my son getting a circumcision so that his penis can look pretty. If your son gets a uti from his foreskin it's a result of negligent parenting and improper care it's not that hard. That said I guess it's just better to agree to disagree. 117 die per year in the United States. That is a tiny percentage when you look at how many males are circumcised. 77 babies die per year from choking on hot dogs... The Mayo Clinic found that, "over their lifetime, half of all uncircumcised males will contract a medical condition related to their foreskin." Half is a big number! Urinary tract infections are the most common, which are very likely to cause kidney infections (which develops in nearly half of infants who contract a UTI). Circumcision lowers the risk of contracting HIV, HPV, and prostate cancer. To me, making this decision at birth will protect him throughout his life. I know I made the right decision for my son. As the AAP states, it's a PERSONAL decision. I'm very passionate about people not being bashed for making a perfectly legal and justifiable personal decision. If you circumcise, good for you. If you don't, good for you. We're all doing what we believe is best for our children.

@supermommy23, exactly not to mention it actually does serve a purpose to your son. It's cleaning and protecting his penis until he reaches a mature sexual age. Comparing it to wisdom teeth or an appendix is irrelevant because they serve no known purpose. That's what's to hilarious about people saying its dirty... The whole function of it is to clean

@elenasmommy, I know a lot of ppl do get misinformed but I believe we are born with certain things for a reason don't go snipping and cutting because someone tells you its not how it should be! plus after a baby is born there already tired and been through a lot I'm not going to put him through more pain by sending him through a unnecessary procedure like snipping extra skin off his pecker it's just extra skin it won't kill him

I'm not trying to argue with anyone. I just want everybody to have the opportunity to see the FACTS of circumcision before they go and do it just because they think it's the normal thing to do. Or that it's more healthy or clean because that's just not the truth

my 2 year old son was not circumcised it will be his decision in the future if that's what he wants he has yet to have a infection or anything

@alyen2, how can benefits outweigh risks when the number of baby's that die a year from it (around 100) is greater than the number of boys recommend to actually medically need it from doctors. Makes no sense. But I didn't post this to argue just to spread some actual facts about circumcision instead of propaganda. Maybe after reading it somebody will decide to do there own research instead of blindly following social norms. Obviously not you because you have your own opinions but if it effects even one person than I'm satisfied 😊

We're also born with an appendix and wisdom teeth. We needed them in the past. Doesn't mean we need them now.

The inside is self cleaning like a vagina as long as it's still attached. When you force it back (which you aren't supposed to) is when it becomes something you're supposed to clean which shouldn't be happening until they are of a much older age and take showers on there own. Circumcision for hygiene is like saying we should all cut our ears off so we don't have to clean behind them. Baby's are born this way for a reason

@jaixi, no you don't. A baby's foreskin is still attached to the penis like how a finger nail is attached to the skin. It shouldn't become pushed back until they reach puberty and do it themselves. By pushing a baby's foreskin back to clean it your literally ripping it. You clean the outside and the part of the head that's naturally showing. That's the problem with circumcision so many people so horribly misinformed about it and don't even know it.

The AAP doesn't recommend it universally for ALL males but isn't against it at all. According to their website, "Evaluation of current evidence indicates that the health benefits of newborn male circumcision outweigh the risks and that the procedure’s benefits justify access to this procedure for families who choose it." I'm informed as well and my opinion is different than yours.

That last thing is not agreeable. You NEED to clean the inside as well as the outside. It can cause infection if you don't. Which is why circumcision is best because it creates a cleaner environment. You are less likely to build up debris and Bacteria that causes infections. Especially if not cleaned properly.
