@dymond, btw staph is a common bacteria found on the skin and any small opening on skin it can cause boils.

@dymond, it can be caused by a staph infection or it can be due to an inflammatory and it is not a staph infection. What you can do at home for the time being is use warm compresses couple times a day. Do not pop it. With the warm compress the pus so to speak will rise to the top or the head of the boil and pop on its on. Once pop just clean with soap and water and you can use bacitracin ointment just to prevent infection. For any reason at all you start getting fever, chills and or severe pain you would have to go to the ED to have it I&D which is basically incision an drainage by a dr under sterile procedure and they would give you antibiotics.

I only say that bc if it's a staph infection, popping it will only make it spread and you don't want that. I'm a nurse not just a know it all lol @dymond

When it pops make sure to keep it covered with a band aide or something. I got them before and doctor told me that and prescribed antibiotics. Try a warm bath also. :)

Yes put a warm towel on it and I use to get them and I would wait till it poped on it's own they do hurt like hell
