okay - I'm in a situation where i need to consider cloth diapers, for financial reasons. i had attempted them maybe once or twice with prior children, but i couldn't seem to put them on correctly as they gapped around the belly & between both legs! needless to say when baby pee's it simply is as bad as not having anything on at all!!! has anyone successfully ever used them? if so, can you please explain to me how to do it?!?! I'm only a few weeks from delivery & decisions & plans need to be in place - I'd love to be able to use the cloth... i just gotta figure out how! 📣please help‼❓

Blah. That should read that the shells *grow with the baby. Not that they are what cost the most.

A lot of the diapers are just covers or shells. You have to put liners in them. They have different types for different absorbency. As the baby grows that's normally what you have to change out; the shells (which are what are expensive) are what cost the most money. I've heard people will use flour sack towels that are super cheap from Walmart or fleece type fabric from the fabric store and make their own stuffers.

@lostinct82mj, what do you mean by stuffers?

My best friend is using them and for the first couple of months she was changing him every 2-3 hours. They recommend 20-25 diapers plus "stuffers" to start with doing laundry every 2-3 days. I know you can buy huge lots of them on eBay but I've heard they leak really bad :(

thank you @hpreggers , im going to check fb & see about the group thing... & @lostinct82mj you have used them in the past as well? how many do you need to have for a 24hr period? i know the turn around with laundry will be a hassle, but alot cheaper overall. i was thinking if i got a ruff # to have for a 48hr stretch, id have enough to keep one on baby & have clean ones ready for changes while i have "x" # in the laundry washing them. what do you think?

In order to use cloth diapers you must also use inserts that absorbs the liquid if you don't pee will just go everywhere. The ones on the wish app aren't too bad to use for the price but you'll need to buy different inserts they'll either not Coke with any or come with a super thin cotton one that absorbs well next to nothing. I suggest flour sack towels from Walmart as inserts they're $1 per towel and work great. If you're on a budget get the FSTs and use covers. You can pad fold or use like a prefold.

I'm going to cloth diaper because in the long term it is much cheaper, but to start it can be quite the investment for quality diapers. And I mean $200-300 for enough to get you through 3 or 4 days between laundry. :( Google cloth diapers 101 and check out the sites that come up.

I found that a lot of mom groups give away stuff on Facebook try that and also there are churches that help give clothes to expectant moms

i would do a diaper party &/or a baby shower... but due to certian circumstances, i now have no friends nor family - AT ALL. i live with my male roommate & he's the ONLY person i know. i don't even see him very often anymore as he's out at the bars, dating, ect... our lifestyles are very different now! so I'd literally have not one single person i could invite if i tried to throw something like that @jamielynn07

what about a diaper party? we did this and had enough diapers to last for my son's first 8 months! also maybe the assistance office can help with a program for diapers.

If you get the wish app, type in cloth diapers in the search bar and they sell them for 1$ a piece with good reviews. They clip and fasten like I guess little pants would, but they're diapers!
