OK mommies *QUESTION* FTM here, & I am 26 weeks today, and I had a doctors appointment for the baby…

I would find a new doctor. A huge red flag is if they don't even bother to look at your chart to know your information. A lot of times the doctor apt are just going in and having them hear babies heart beat. Checking your stomach and measuring it. Then doctor should ask questions on how you are feeling.

Most people only have 2-3 ultrasounds depending on insurance and pregnancy issues. Also you should have already taken your glucose test!

im pregnant with my second now but with my first i didnt get checked until 30w. they only check upon request then and now if i tell them im feeling irregular down there. thats all they do is listen to babys heart beat ask questions and send you home first and second trimester appointments are annoying because they are repetitive.

i was the same way all they did was check the heart beat measured me and told me when i will go back to see them but have u done a glucose levels test or drawn blood my doctor hasn't really checked me but since I'm coming to an end with my pregnancy they are starting to check me more

And a urine sample should be given every time!

yikes! I'm 26 weeks Thursday and my doctor office stays on top of everything. I haven't needed to be checked for STDs so yea usually my appointments with just the doctor are questions and checking the babies heart beat. but before that I always get my vitals and weight checked. it's proto call where I go. and my ultrasounds always last a long time. yes the wait is long but I'm a patient person and plan for such things. doctors can't control how long other patients need their attention.

@hward12, they check the heartbeat everytime and do a urine sample, but they have never measured me or checked my stomach. and they definitely don't ask me any kind of questions...

you have from i think 26-30 weeks to get the glucose testing done. my appointment to get mines done is next Friday and i scheduled mine when i went to the doctor nearly a month ago

@wrd2016, If they seem like they don't care I would automatically find a new doctor. Every life that they see should be precious to them and if you don't get that feeling then that's anther huge red flag. I am a medical assistant and it is protocol that we do two vital signs. Normally that will be weight and BP because those are important things in pregnancy. I never feel like just another patient at my doctors office. My Obgyn knows me by name knows my son who she delivered 3 years ago by name and knows every single detail in my chart.

usually quick appointments are a good sign that everything is well so even though it sucks, it makes your pregnancy less of a priority than others. I had the same issue with my first obgyn, I knew all was well and that I wasn't as high of a priority but they sure made it obvious. They rushed me through my appointments and I hated it because I had to think of all the questions I wanted to ask in like 3 minutes and I would forget some. Also they kept forgetting to send home a urine sample jar with me, they also wouldn't let me take my glucose test until 29 weeks. So I definitely switched to a new one. If they make you feel like a number and don't seem professional to you, I would definitely find another one and now is the time.

@hward12, I have had 3 ultra sounds 2 early on bc I didn't know the last day of my last period and when they did the first one I wasnt far enough along to tell exactly how far I was so they did another one to determine the due date and the 3rd one was in a different office for the gender. & that's what I thought too, when I went in this time she asked me about it and I told her that I hadn't done the test yet and she just told me to fit it into my next appointment lol @brudd330 no I'm supposed to do it on the 25th of this month.@kimberleyoyler2014, they told me that it was routine to check for them lol I've never had to be checked before so I didn't know what they would be doing. & I get my vitals checked before I go to the room but I they don't ask me anything about how I'm feeling or if I feel this or that, and I don't mind waiting, but I just feel like they should be doing more.

If your uncomfortable with your doctor then don't hesitate to change doctors. you have to be able to have a good connection with them

@mom2meatballs, yeah when she told me to do it on my next appointment she said they usually try to do it between week 26 and 28 @hward12 they do my vitals before they send me back to a room but yes that's why I feel like I should switch bc I feel like they don't care, and that I'm just another chart in their busy schedule, I've waited this long bc I thought maybe they would change or maybe they were just really busy for those couple of visits but it hasn't changed and I want someone that cares about my daughter and me, I'm a ftm and I don't know what to expect and I want them to ask me questions and tell me stuff I should be experiencing and letting me know what's normal and what's not. thank you for the info! @missyowl92 but that's what worries me, they haven't checked me to even see that everything is fine, so I can't tell if everything is okay or if they just don't think it's necessary to check..

@kimberleyoyler2014, thats what I think too, i havent even talked to or seen him enough to feel comfortable of even remember what he looks like lol, thank you!

@wrd2016, usually if they hear the heartbeat and they think it sounds fine to them then that's all that matters because he's healthy. So I wouldn't worry about anything being wrong. If they send you on your way then it's most likely that everything is fine. Definitely though if you don't feel comfortable with that doctor then switch. I'm happy I did

I highly recommend midwives if you don't feel like your provider is giving you enough attention. My appts were short and uneventful BUT they always sat down and focused on me and asked if I had questions. And they really answered and paid attention. I loved that aspect of seeing a midwife :)
