Ok I just finished with my pp check up and everything looks great. My doctor suggested that I get the mirenna for birth control and I asked about the side effects and I'm a bit concerned. I know that women are supposed to have periods but one of the side effects of this birth control is irregular periods or your period stops after a few months. Ok is this safe at all? I mean I don't mind not having a period anymore but isn't that the way your body cleans itself and the main indication that your reproductive organs are working properly? Please if anyone has used this form of birth control inform me on your experience and how well u like it or not. My doctor says that it's good to stay in for 5 years wich is really great but what if I forget to remove it after that time? I'm so nervous about this because it's something new to me. Your feedback and opinions are greatly appreciated

@pregomego, That's good to know but being that pregnancy is still possible with the iud how would you know that you're pregnant if u don't have a period? I just want to take precautions as well as make sure that this birth control isn't going to keep me from having future kids

I was one of the women who had a horrible experience with the mirena. My hormones were absolutely out of whack and just about every other negative side effect.

@queeneden, Oh man now I'm really thinking about not getting it. Im not sure what to do, I dont want pills or the shot and getting my tubes tied is scary as well. I need something that's not going to make my hormones go crazy and I won't gain too much weight

My best friend has the copper one and says it's awesome. I quit using bc altogether after my experience, but she says the copper one has no negative side effect on her.

There are different types of iuds. The mirena is just one type.
