So, I've been tossing the idea of water birth around in my head, and I have come to realize that I would absolutely LOVE to do that...BUT. And I know ya'll are gonna get a good laugh out of this one....I find it terribly disgusting to take a bath in a tub anyone else has soaked in whom I am not related to, even at a really nice hotel, let alone anyone else's blood, amniotic fluid, and placenta has been all over the place in. I know for an absolute fact that although hospital staff does clean the facilities, they are never REALLY cleaned how we would clean and disinfect them. Does anyone else have this fear or turn off when it comes to water birth?

I wanted a water birth too! But then it was brought to my attention not only would I be in the tub of water I would be sitting in my own amniotic fluid and blood and fluids... That turned me off a bit

Keep it a bean, I will tell hubby to clean it really good for me if it ever got to the point of getting in the tub.... I want to use it to relax ; birth if it happens.

@mommyandbriston, was it I who brought it to your attention? lol if so, I didn't mean to ruin your potential choice! I'm just kinda blown away at how disusting the idea of that is. I honestly don't mind sitting in my own, lol but sitting where someone elses stuff has been makes my skin crawl

Is a birth pool an option for you? They get new liners every time. Plus they are large enough for your partner to get in with you and for you to move into many different positions :)

I was under the impression that like many things in a hospital they have sterile packs they use ie: a plastic cover for the tub, so that nothing can 'not' be cleaned. and they would still clean under when done. idk, but worth looking into if you really want one. I'd love to but they don't offer them in my hospital, I'd have to do it at home and I'm just not up for that lol

@ligermama, that sounds a whole world better than a regular tub! I would love that. However, being that the OB unit at the hospital I am going to most likely doesn't have that, I doubt I would be able to have that available as an option unless I chose to give birth without my midwife and went to a local birthing center. I won't know for sure if they have one until I do my hospital tour, but I don't remember them having one when I was there 11 years ago when I had my son.

@uhoh2015, I know they just use the straight up bathtub here in Fl where I am. No liners, unfortunately. I wish! I thought about home birth too, but being that I live literally out in the woods and about 20 minutes from the hospital, I just don't feel comfortable with home birth in case anything were to, God forbid, go wrong. It was always a dream of mine, though, to have a home birth!

Well you can rent them, you would just have to find out if they allow them! Worth asking :) I wonder if they make liners for regular tubs too... Hmmm
