ok let me ask...how many of you were anxious prior to your first OB appt? According to my app I'm 6w4d and I'm just hoping everything is discovered to be ok. I think my biggest fear is having a miscarriage especially since they say the likelihood is higher the older you are (and I'm 37). I don't want to be one of "those" preggo women who worry but I don't know bc it's too soon to feel kicking or anything so there's no telling.

I guess you can say I was more anxious than nervous. A lot of factors can cause a miscarriage though but you can't let that get to you. try to stay positive. if you aren't yet, start taking your prenatals now and make sure you drink a lot of water if you can. it felt unreal to me and even with this belly of mine, seeing him on ultrasounds, listening to his heartbeat I am still in shock that I am pregnant. we tried for 3 months and here we are

Мама двоих (младенец)

I had a miscarriage at 29 age can have something to do with it but when it comes to your nerves I think part of that is totally normal we had an us at 6 weeks and she wanted us to come back for our 8 week and on the in between I was sooo anxious. It's just nerve-wracking and exciting all in one.

I just want to say that I'm 21 and I have the same fear.. and I'm medically knowledgeable so I know that until I'm 24-25 weeks I won't be satisfied with anything... gut heath is a big one though that they have reciently found out so a probiotic would be helpful along with your prenatals

Nothing that hurts. But I had genetic testing to check for things like Down syndrome etc. it's an extensive sono gram and blood work. I had a miscarriage 5 years ago so they check my cervix more often. You don't have to do that but that is more stuff I have to do.

Oh and you meet with the genetic testing people. My ladies were very nice. They asked tons of questions about my family and the dads family to get some background

@aphrodite2014, that's good to know. @kaygrig I wonder if that's extra money I will have to see if my insurance covers it

They should cover it because of your age. They told me women can get the test done before 35 but some insurance companies don't cover them. So you should be good.

Never be afraid to ask questions. It's your providers job to answer them. You won't be the first or the last to be worried/anxious. Congrats and good luck!

Мама дочки (6 лет), беременна (7 нед.)

The worrying is so normal for me. I am 6w2d and have an ultrasound in 4 days. I'm so scared that there won't be a heartbeat or something. I've had two miscarriages (one at 8 weeks, one at 16) and am always feeling like there will be another. I've just been trying to keep calm because there is nothing I can do to change anything that's going on. I just take care of myself as best as I can and say a lot of prayers. You are not alone in the anxiety, though!

Мама четверых детей

Hi @tchrmama13. I'm 40 and almost 15 weeks. At my first appointment (about 6 weeks); I had an exam and was sent for blood work to check my hcg (pregnancy hormone) levels. When those levels came back supportive of pregnancy I was scheduled for an ultrasound. Had the ultrasound at a little over 8 weeks. I also had the genetic testing done and with that testing was able to find out the gender of the baby. Don't stress; you will be just fine!

I had the blood drawn at 11 weeks and they called me with the results about 5 business days later. I still have a second round of blood work to get done in a couple of weeks. The first draw tested for chromosomal abnormalities and the second tests for things like spina bifida. So I new the gender before week 13 I guess.
