We're having mixed emotions about the new car seat...is it just me or does it seem too loose on her stomach...the straps are tight on her shoulders and the chest clip is right up against her chest BUT the straps are about an inch from her tummy...is that ok ?

This is tannon in his seat in cloth. Once you get a good fit cloth shouldn't make it bulk out that much. Also make sure she's sitting up when you first put her in. If tan slouches down it puffs out

On Facebook there is a group called "car seats for littles" id join and post this picture there and ask. They're trained car seat techs and can help you more then we can

@thehowtohippie, I can't pinch the straps at all but the tummy area seems so far from her tummy I put her in a disposable diaper and it fit better but in the cloth it seems super far off of her tummy even with the straps super tight

Are you able to pinch the straps at all? If the next position up on the shoulder straps is still at or below shoulders to can try moving them up one and tightening them

@thehowtohippie, the length doesn't change its on the middle setting bc the smallest won't buckle and the seat instructions say for rear facing only use the smallest or the middle setting the largest setting is or front facing

Can you adjust the center snap? The crotch area. Some you can reposition

Haha yeah I'm sure it's something to get used to! Even when she's taller though, unless she reaches the taller strap she should be on the shorter one. If you think it makes her uncomfortable you could always put her in a shirt with a collar or something for car rides, so that it doesn't dig into/rub her skin. If she doesn't seem bothered by it though, I'm sure it's fine. As long as she's safe!

@Bria.k, me too ! It seems like ever since we switched to cloth diapers I've struggled to get the straps right since she's tall and the cloth diapers make her bottom huuuuge

You're welcome! It should be about a fingers space between her and the belt. Hope you got it figured out!

I think it's only right at her shoulders because she's at level with the straps. If you pull the slack at her belly through the leg straps where it's tight, won't the leg straps loosen? Then you can pull that slack through the back?

@Bria.k it seems loose to me too but the shoulder straps are tight to the point where it's almost digging her shoulders and its tight around the legs and the buckle is in the tightest position that I can get it without it being under her bottom..I'm not really sure what else I could do to fix this .....@californiahaley could this be because of the cloth diaper

Seems too loose. You can tighten the bottom straps, too. That might help!

Here’s a visual for you. My little girl is buckled into her car seat correctly. Her straps are over her shoulders, coming from below her shoulders, her CHEST clip is armpit level, and I can't pinch any slack above her shoulders. My little boy is buckled in incorrectly. His CHEST chip is between his belly button and chest, his straps are VERY loose. If we were to get into a car accident he would most likely be ejected from his car seat and flung forward. If you do not feel confident to flip your child upside down in a 5 point harness, THEY ARE NOT STRAPPED IN CORRECTLY. It is your obligation as a parent to make sure your tiny people are safe. It is not an opinion. It is an obligation. And it is the law in Oklahoma to rear face your BABY till 2. *** NOT MY POST**** just felt it was definitely worth sharing here🖤

Share pictures of you littles in their car seats for a CAR SEAT FIT CHECK 😊 I am a CPST (Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician) and would be more than happy to help you double check that your seat is fitting your little one correctly - proper strap placement, chest clip placement, strap tightness etc. plus any other questions you may have! You can also send me a private message if you prefer 🙂 Other helpful info would be if your child is rear facing or forward facing, their age/height/weight, and the name of the car seat you’re using. I’ll share first! My littlest is 18 months, 28lbs, and 30ish inches long. And she is sitting rear facing in a Diono Rainier. 😊 The straps are coming from below her shoulders, her chest clip is at nipple/arm pit level, there’s no slack in her harness, and there aren’t any aftermarket products attached to her straps or added to her car seat! ✅ 🙂 *please no bashing or mommy shaming for being “overprotective” or for any misuse you may see - it’s more common than you think 😉

son getting out of car seat

son getting out of car seat So a couple days ago my son started getting himself out of his car seat while we are on the road. He will be 2 years old May 27th. He pushes the chest clip all the way down and pulls his arms and shoulders out of the straps but is still buckled at the waist. Today he did it 4 times, we had to pull over every time. What do you guys do when they start doing this? My Britax came with these long rubber strap covers but I took them off a while ago when he was to small for them. Are they to stop him from pushing the chest clip down? I just want to know if these will help before I take it apart to put them back on.
