feeling really heartbroken...my baby had to get tested for jaundice today and hes ok but i was told to stop breastfeeding for a few days and give him formula and pedialite to clear out his system. we finally had the breastfeeding thing down and now i cant nurse until he starts looking better. what if he wont go back to the breast? im so devestated right now. im happy hes ok, but this sucks :'(

I wouldn't stop nursing, he gets just as much plus more from you than he would from formula... that doesn't make sense.

the dr told me that the breast milk was too much for his liver and that it needed to be flushed out. should i ask another dr? i really dont want to stop if i dont have too! @coraanne

I would get a second opinion. If anything, give him small amounts of water if he needs "flushed out". But seriously that's fishy to be told breastmilk is not good for him.

i looked it up and apparently this is a huge debate between drs. since this is what they told me at the ER, im going to call his pediatrician tmrw and ask what he recommends. @annlou

Keep breastfeeding in the meantime. like seriously what does that doctor think was fed to babies before formula was even available?! Get another opinion and talk to a lactation consultant.
