I was so set on an epidural but I'm on the fence now 😕 I'm also dead set on breastfeeding and getting skin to skin contact immediately in the hospital. But after learning you have to wait two hours to breastfeed if you have an epidural...I'm considering all natural. I was induced with my first so I have NO clue what to expect!

I did it natural and in still alive. It sucks but I kept thinking how I don't want back problems forever and I definitely don't want a catheter ! Lol

did just a lc tell you that? I'd call the hospital you plan to deliver at and ask them. Dr's and lc and nurses have awful communication so I'd check or even check out a different hospital

Ive never heard of waiting to hold or feed baby ask for low does epidural if you really want but best advice walk in with a open mind you never know how your body is going to react my epidural gave my body time to relax and dilate and i didnt want it in the first place and if you have questions about delivery and feeding contact your hospital mine did a tour and discussed how they push skin to skin right off the bat and if you are going to breast feed to do it right away but also keep in mind you may be set on breast feeding and you may not produce enough or the baby may not take well to it and dont get upset just go to your next option my breastfeeding experience last baby was hell not only was i not producing enough he was a bitter because he wasnt getting enough so after 3 weeks of crying i switched and he is a bright handsome healthy 3yr old

I can hold the baby immediately but have to wait to breastfeed for two hours if I get the epidural. I had a consultation with both lactation consultants 😕 @Jomommaclark @tater4414 @steph11 @jjbutton

that's the way my hospital is. you can't hold or breastfeed the baby for 2 hours after epidural. could you ask for maybe a spinal? I'm going all natural just because I wanna hold my baby immediately after lol... oh the joy and pain haha

In the long run no epidural is worth it (:

the only reason they won't let you is if there are complications that's why I had to wait about 2 hours

That's interesting, at my hospital even with an epidural you can immediately breastfeed!

Is that your hospitals policy? I know our hospital always puts baby skin to skin (if there's no complications) immediately after birth for at least one hour. They don't even weigh the baby. They never mention, "unless you have an epidural". However, it is a very pro-breastfeeding hospital

Birth Plan Rant I used to be all about getting an epidural, but after research and thinking about it more I want to have an unmedicated birth (this is my first baby). What annoys me is when I say that I'm going to TRY my hardest to have a natural and unmedicated birth people always feel the need to say that I'm crazy or that I'm going to change my mind when I get in that position. Or that epidurals are the best. I do realize that plans change, but why can't people be supportive and encouraging?
