I think the main thing I'm scared for when I go into labor is getting the epidural. Any momma's out there have any experience? How was the pain of getting one & how fast did it kick in?

It wasn't bad- they numb it. It just feels like someone is pushing against your lower back. No pain. I don't remember how quickly it set in, but I believe it was fairly quick. Although, with this pregnancy, I'm thinking about going natural. What they don't tell you about epidurals is that you cannot freaking move. Literally. Your legs are unusable and if you try to lift them, they feel like they weigh 100 lbs. you have to use a catheter. You can't drink or eat- only munch on ice. It isn't very pleasant feeling totally immobilized like that.

I can't do needles at all. I mean I have a compete meltdown when I have to get a shot/blood work and when I was induced and felt my first few contractions I was begging for it. I had an awesome nurse who let me put my arms around her and squeeze and I really don't remember the needle going in or anything because the contractions hurt so bad. And mine only worked on one side so I had to lay a certain way for a while and then I felt great. Lol. Getting it taken out is worse tho.

@mamalamadingdong, you're not allowed to eat or drink during natural labor either. They don't want you throwing up or anything else. But after you have the baby you can drink

@lovebuggg2016, well that's ridiculous, I wouldn't have thrown up lol. They let me chew ice, that was it. Going that long without water is just cruel if you ask me lol.

They do let you chew on ice which I find strange some hospitals will let you drink water during but it really depends. When I had my kidney stone I threw up because of the pain. I hope that I don't throw up because of labor pains lol. After my friend had her baby in December, she had an epidural too, they gave her a Sierra Mist to keep her sugar up. @manalamadingdong

I could feel my legs just fine cuz I was constantly moving and I wasn't pressing the button to give me more of the epidural. .. it took the pain away without it numbing me to the point where I couldn't move my legs

the staying still during a contraction was not fun but as soon as i got it like 5 mins later docotor asked did i feel the contraction i said no i had one? she laughed and said yes...it was amazing! i mean after 6 hours of hard labor and only dilated to a 6 i couldnt handle it anymore i needed some pain relief I have no back problems after the epidural not all women do..
