All I can say is these past 10 days in the NICU have been beyond both mentally and physically exhausting , and we still have at minimum 3 more weeks to go , that is if he keeps doing as wonderful as he is . I wish more than anything that my body could of carried him to term but it gave up at 32 weeks . I don't wish any baby be born before term . It's so hard to see your baby hooked up to tubes, wires , and IVs . It puts a hurt on my heart that I only get to hold him once a day and it kills me to leave him there even if it's just to go eat or take a shower . The NICU is very noisy. There are alarms going off all the time. Some to let you know that the babies' monitors have come unattached. Some to let you know they have too little or too much oxygen in their bloodstream. And the worst of all, the BRADY monitors, which tell you that they've stopped breathing and their heart rate is going down below 80. This monitor's alarm is 3 very loud, very short beeps. You can hear them all over the NICU.
Any time one of these alarms goes off, your heart stops for a minute your nurse stops what they are doing even if they are down the hall and hurry over to your baby whose alarm is going off. If it's a "good" brady, the baby will recover on his or her own. If it's a moderate brady, a nurse provides gentle stimulation by patting the baby to get the baby to start breathing again. A bad brady requres a dose of caffeine to start the breathing process again. All I can say to all the Mommy's to be is keep that baby in there as long as possible , no matter how uncomfortable you might be , of course there are cases where it's safer for baby to be here but nothing can prepare you for the emotional roller coaster that is the NICU !!

aww I am so sorry you are having to go through this.. I went through it with my oldest son. he was born at 34 weeks.. it will be even round when you get home.. it was for me.. a year after I had him I kept telling myself why I couldn't carry him like everyone else and have him in the room with me.. why me.. Than few years later, I found out I am pregnant again.. scared to have another preemie. so my doctor kept a very close eye on me and I was able to go full term this time.. I has his little brother a week before his due date...
just think of it this way you get to spend more time with your child. I kept telling myself I get to spend more and more time with him while he is still little.
