@mamabear01, teaching experience is no longer s requirement to be a counselor. Because it is more mental health focused these days rather than vocational, you need a Masters. I work in a middle school, I love it!

I teach kindergarten but a colleague of mine just got hired as a guidance counselor at a local high school in her town!
