Like above says someone who would trust to step in if God forbid something happen to you or you can't provide for that child they sign a oath before God and church to step in . I honestly feel tho that the generation now doesn't really know the true meaning and tend to just pick any girl they been friends with for a year or so

Like someone who you would trust to watch over your child if something happened to you or your partner . It can be friends or family . Usually family though. Depends . To each its own.
