@californiahaley, yeah the provider I have in mind is part of my hospital and I was told that he will see my baby once he is born, but I wasn't sure when the right time to ask him to be my pediatrician was. I didn't want to ask too early and especially not too late.

At my hospital even if you have a pedi picked out they don't do the newborn check unless they're associated with the hospital and happen to be the pedi on call when giving birth.

@rdeezy, I hope you find the same thing. Dr Leonard does the same thing. He also works with my other doctors (OB & internal med) so it works great! Good luck!!

@mindylou, right on! it's always great to be able to have that connection with a doctor. The provider I found turns out a lot of the women in my clinic see him and he not only cares about the babies but he also makes sure mom and dad are doing ok too.

I am almost 28 weeks but had been looking into him for over a month.

That's true but usually if your ob is linked with the hospital they can refer you to a pediatrician who is also usually liked to that hospital, which makes it easier. @lp1988727

I researched the pediatricians in our area and talked to several friends on whom they would recommend. Dr Leonard came highly recommended and after meeting with him this week I know we made the right choice! He is also on staff at the Omaha Children's Hospital where our little man may end up at if he had the same genetic mutations my husband has. He sat and talked with us for about a half hour about everything. I was so relieved that I started crying when we left! He has the same mind frame as we do on vaccinations and will personally come to the hospital, even if he is not on call, if something happens. And he wears Marvel Comic t-shirts ask the time!! Who could ask for more!! So my suggestion is do your research and try to find someone before your little one arrives. It really put my mind at ease!!

@queendavis, yes I think that's how my hospital does it, I found already found someone but I'm not sure when I should ask him if he can be my pediatrician. @lp1988727 oh ok, maybe I can just ask my OB, that could also be what they do at my hospital. I wasn't sure how everyone else did. Thanks for the info ladies :)

Not at my hospital, they want you to have your pediatrician all picked out and ready. They want him to check the baby since he'll be taking care of baby from then on. If you don't end up finding one then they'll provide you with one but they rather you get one before. @lp1988727

@alye27, thats what i was told, so you asked before baby was born? oh ok, it sounds like it depends on the hospital. @californiahaley @reaganmommy2015

I've been wondering the same thing recently , my ob says to pick one but then I've heard they have one come and see your child in the hospital so I would assume they have to be associated with the hospital you deliver at first off which kind of limits options and secondly how do you know who is on call ? So I think I may wait until 30 weeks to look further into it .

My OB office asked me who I was picking as my son's pedi and I told them. Then once he was born they notified her and she came and checked up on him in the hospital. That's how it worked for us.

I've been told by my doc and my hospital to find one before. I picked one out and he'll be the person that checks her out after she's born.

I have an "adult practitioner" not a family dr. So we met ours in the hospital he was the pedi on call and we liked him so much we stuck with him.
