I cried hysterically last night for a few reasons. 1) I'm trying to exclusively breastfeed and had to supplement last night because my son just wouldn't stop rooting and crying for food.
2) my son wouldn't stop crying and rooting for food.
3) my dad stayed up all night (from 2am) with my son so I could sleep (he insisted on staying up).
It was a rough night.

No problem. We never know how common our worries are for our little ones.

Don't worry the more you feed him off the breast the more supply you will have.

I WISH I could pump a supply like that @junesmommy15!! I did fine the first 5 days. It's this whole week for me that I'm pretty sure my son is going through his first growth spurt because I just can't keep up with him. I'm bummed that I have to supplement but my hopes are that he will be EBF after his first spurt. I'm still breastfeeding him, just when he gets really fussy after feeding and starts rooting that's when I go to the formula. The plus side is throughout the night and most of the morning he does fairly well breastfeeding wise. I think yesterday I gave him like 2 bottles at only 2oz. So he's not getting a whole bunch of formula it's just to hold him over so he can sleep better and is full. I'm going to try to pump more this week but who knows because he feeds on BOTH sides these days.

I know what you mean. My son is eating a bunch. Glad you got some relief. I think the first five days were the hardest days for me. I was so worried about me not producing enough milk for my baby. I wanted to give up so bad. I started pumping and would get like 2.5 ounces out of each breast. Once I continued to pump exclusively the milk just started coming in. I had to give my baby formula 3 times starting the 5th day and never no more from there. I believe the formula kept him content meanwhile I was pumping and it caught up where I could keep pumping and feed him. I hated that he had formula but I'm happy it was only 3oz. in all. Now I'm pumping 7.5oz. from each boob after 12 days. That's probably twice a day.

@junesmommy15, yes I have tried pumping, I used to pump 3-4 ounces per side, now it's only around 1 ounce per side. Plus, It's difficult for me to continuously pump because my son is ALWAYS on my boob trying to feed. I've come to grips with the fact that I just can't keep up with my sons demands at the moment, I've moved to supplementing with Earths Best organic formula so I feel a little better about my fear of unnecessary chemicals. I'm still nursing him, just when he gets super cranky after feeding on both sides and starts rooting I'll give him a few ounces of the formula. He seems to be taking it all very well. He's just going through a spurt.

you have to remember when they are exclusively breastfed they aren't just using you to nurse they are also using you as a pacifier so even tho he's not hungry he'll still want to latch because he's looking for comfort. & him actually nursing is telling your body to produce more don't get frustrated just yet!
