This is my birth story: (@natsmommy)
I went to the hospital around 8pm, when I first got there I filled out paper work and put on the gown. Then they put my IV in and started giving me fluids. They started induction at 10pm, I was already 1/2 centimeter dialated. They inserted 3 pills vaginally and were supposed to continue giving me subsequent doses to keep me in labor every 4 hours. Well the contractions started within minutes of being initially induced, they weren't bad and felt mostly like one continuous period cramp. They continually got worse, they were a lot stronger and it didn't feel like one continuous cramp anymore, I could feel the individual contractions. At around 12am I asked to have the IV pain medicine to help deal with the contractions, my plan was to get an epidural when the pain became unbearable. So at 1am (an hour before they were supposed to give me the second dose) the pain medicine wore off completely and the contractions got really bad and my water broke. I asked the nurse for the epidural and she called the anesthesiologist to come and give it to me, but he was in another room giving another woman her epidural so I had to wait. The nurse didn't believe that my water broke, so she looked and sure enough it had. After that she looked at the contraction monitor and saw that my contractions were a minute apart and about a minute long. The nurse had me get up and go in the shower to help ease the pain because at that point I was begging for an epidural because the contractions were unbearable. Well I got in the shower (which helped a lot) and within 10 minutes felt the urge to push. So I told the nurse and she said that I shouldn't push and that I just needed to go back to the bed and lay down and then when everyone got there I could start pushing. Well I tried not to push but my body did anyway. So she put my gown back on and took me back to the bed, laid me down, and checked me. That's when she saw that I was crowning. I pushed 2 more times and he was out. The doctors and nurses weren't even at the bed when he came out, they were still trying to get everything ready. After they saw him come out they immediately took him and cleaned him up while the doctor tried to get me ready to deliver the placenta. The doctor ended up sticking her whole hand into my vagina to pull the placenta out. After I delivered the placenta the anesthesiologist came in to give me my epidural but he was obviously too late.
I was in labor for 3 hours and 49 minutes. Zeek Allen Kellems was born at 1:49am May 7, 2015. He weighed 1 pound 7 ounces and was 12 inches long.
