Saw a mom of 3 former students at a restaurant tonight. She’s a server and I see her every so often. We chatted for a few minutes until she points out her 18yo son sitting across the restaurant. He sees us and waves.
She calls out, “Do you know who this is?” while pointing at me. He says, “Mrs. _____?!?!” with such care in his voice and on his face.
Y’all, my heart.
These kids grow up & they don’t forget us.
THIS is why I do what I do. 🫶🏼

PS - This is a reminder that you shouldn’t work your weird ass childhood traumas out on the school staff. Get a therapist. Your child needs to learn how to work with all kinds of people and authority figures in their adolescence so they can be prepared to succeed as an adult. Do less. Keep a watchful eye, but don’t intervene when things are uncomfortable. Discomfort is okay. It’s human. Only get involved if things are concerning. Otherwise - it’s OKAY for kids to make mistakes and learn life lessons when they’re young — and when the stakes are low. Childhood is the time for mistakes, learning, and growth. STOP being weirdos and getting involved in shit that you should sit out. Getting overly involved sets kids up to be teens and adults who have zero ability to deal with failure, discomfort, etc. Stop. Guide them through the small discomforts as young kids so they can deal with the big discomforts as adults. Do better.
