Расистские высказывания в школах: как изменилась ситуация за последние 6 лет? Мой опыт

This is my 18th year working in public education. In the first 12ish years of my career, I never ever encountered students saying deeply offensive and racist remarks about a group of people or directly to a student who is a part of a marginalized group.

Despite growing up in an extremely progressive and diverse area, I have mostly worked in schools/areas that are predominantly white since I’ve spent all of my career in rural areas. I’ve now lived in my community for 14 years.

Sadly, things started shifting slowly over the course of the last 6+ years to the point where I am now dealing with racist remarks on a semi-regular basis. The fact that this shift occurred during the first few years of the first Trump administration and has ramped up significantly since then is not lost on me or my colleagues.

Children learn through observation. And the adults in our country are leading our children down a deeply disturbing path. It’s so incredibly disheartening to watch this behavior in our children. I’m thankful for my upbringing because it helped shaped me into someone who has zero time for overtly or thinly veiled racism. Not happening on my watch. Period.

Schools are not perfect, but do you know what they are? They are a reflection of our society as a whole. And what is being reflected is abhorrent.

Our children deserve better than this. If you’re not alarmed then you’re not paying attention.

If you’re not paying attention then shame. on. you.

I know I'm guilty of doing the "4 year countdown," but it's failing to take into consideration that sometimes the damage gets done. Now we have to teach these children that way to think isn't acceptable. Moving from intolerance to compassion, that's a lot more work than teaching hate.
I was excited about the work that we (this generation of parents) were doing. We experienced a lot of pain, injustice, intolerance, and we said, it's going to end here. We're not going to pass down generational curses to the next generation. We get therapy and try to be understanding of a situation different from ours. Then Trump came and trampled all over that. We're being set back so many decades. The cops (2 males) entered a women's bathroom to remove a woman, because she didn't present "female" enough.. "SAVE Act" threatens the right to vote for many. Psychological diagnoses (and effective treatments) are being threatened.

Now we just have to wait for someone to scream, "Witch!!!", then we can gather our pitchforks and burn people at the stake.

It's a lot. Even the people who dig a hole in the ground and bury their heads (because they think these aren't their problems) are going to be caught up in the whirlwind.

And they had always been like that. Now, they have validation and permission to be hateful. They're going full throttle

It really does break my heart. My oldest hasn't come home yet with anything but I'm sure it's only a matter of time. Unfortunately our little community is split and I'm sure she'll encounter something one of these days. I told my husband that we have to talk to her about the way the world is spinning these days. I don't want to ruin her innocence but I want to prepare her.

Kiddo is 13 and freshly is in-tune to some of the crap and it is just so sad. We as parents can only do so much before they go off into the world as adults. This is going to be tough on all of us. Truly.
Our schools here at least do not tolerate any of the Bs that is going on. We are diverse and we are LGBTQ+ as well. Fock all these haters and their fictional living because it just makes them a tad uncomfortable (grow up). Just disgusting. Hate is always around but it is shining even brighter this year. Embrace diversity people! We all come from somewhere else etc.

Be a better parent. Teach and educate yourself.
This is the plan along. Divide 2025🙄.
