Как улучшить баланс между работой и личной жизнью в США? Ответственность компаний и защита сотрудников

https://www.fastcompany.com/91113109/overtime-rule-change-pay-new-salary-thresholds-explained

Fostering a healthier work-life balance in the US is important. While there are probably many ways this could be accomplished, this approach puts the responsibility back on the company and keeps them from using lower level exempt employees as workhorses.

Absolutely! When I was salary I was essentially on call 24/7 and without this law, I would never do it again.

I had always hated this. I remember one job required salaried workers to work a minimum of 50 hours a week, at the salaried pay 😑 They said, "you're salary, you get no overtime pay."

@mujerstillregal @jenx I'm on salary at my main job and they do this to all their lower level management. They start you at enough for you to not be able to pass it up and then "additional needs" keeps you on the clock past 40 hours. Something tells me a lot of employees will be getting a raise to bump them up just past that threshold on July 1. Ironically that's the day our new fiscal year starts. I am grateful for my job and it pays my bills, but the overall outlook on employment in the US is insane

"Overall outlook on employment in the US is insane..." Honey, say that again, lol. I know people in other countries that get 30 vacation days, paid, can be taken all at once. When I talk to them, and I tell them about having 2 weeks, 1 week, or no vacation time, lol, they rethink moving to the US 😂 and let's not even talk about the grief you can get from your employer trying to take your little 2 week vacation consecutively. Also, that 30 day vacation, it's "working days." So the only days they use for vacation are M-F, and that's just five days, so you can stretch those 30 days. It's over a month of vacation time

I could go on for days about this. I've always been super interested in how people's individual psychology works in the organizational setting. I've read over and over about how you have better employees when an organization takes care of all levels of psychological needs. Money fulfills only the lowest levels, and work-life balance is one of the things that can fulfill higher level needs. There is a minor shift in companies attending to this though, because societal stakeholders are starting to hold companies accountable. Consumers want employee-centric companies. If society pushes hard enough, companies may respond to maintain their appearance and reputation. End rant.

it would be very interesting to see a shift to 30 days, or even 3 weeks being the standard. But, be not deceived, ye noble one. These are country standards, not company levels. Companies are just compliant. The companies can still have toxic work environments, and they often do 😒 people are people no matter where they are or who you think they are..

Edit cuz I typed what I was saying to someone in real life, lol.

I am very fortunate to be salary and have a company culture that doesn’t encourage working beyond 40hrs. I’m at a marketing agency and if I have a client that is too demanding, I’m empowered to enact boundaries or my boss will rebalance my workload. And when “off-hour” projects are needed, we’re able to come in late or leave early to ensure we’re not working over 40.

I’m happy this law is being passed as I know my company is rare and everyone deserves a fair work-life balance.

You are so lucky. Your company seems to be one of the ones shifting towards an employee centric culture. Ahead of the curve 🙂
