So we had an outside neuropsych testing done for my kid and 1 of the diagnoses was Other Specified Anxiety Disorder and they recommended psychotherapy. While I think that everyone benefits from therapy I feel uncomfortable forcing my child into this. We have discussed getting help from someone to help him when he feels nervous or when he has a hard time with his emotions (he does not understand ‘anxiety’); however he keeps saying “no” and has asked me not to make him. According to the results of the self rating scales, he does not see any issues with social emotional and that everything is good. School social worker also suggested therapy before these results were even available.

Does anyone have any experience or advice?

I’ve been in the mental health field for 24 years, and 17 of those were as a child & family therapist.

*Disclaimer that this is not professional advice since I’ve never met your child, but just general ideas given what you’ve shared.

Forcing a child to do therapy generally won’t be very successful. They could be resistant to the clinician and possibly resent you for making them go to therapy, especially if he doesn’t feel like there are any problems.

Something that may work though is finding a play therapist or someone who specializes in sand tray therapy or art therapy. These modalities feel less like traditional psychotherapy “tell me your problems” and are more client-guided/child-centered. He may respond better to these.

Thank you for the response! How would I find someone like this? I really would like someone neuroaffirming. I don’t want anyone to try to change him, but give him tools and strategies.

As a mother or professional, should I wait until he agrees with therapy? Should I try and bribe him to “just try it one time”?

I would start by Googling certified play therapist near you and see what comes up.

If you find someone, you can preface it with him by saying they are a safe space for kids and he wouldn’t have to talk if he doesn’t want to. So much work can happen just through play activities- that’s kids’ language, so to speak, and they work out/process whatever they need to in the metaphor of play. The play therapist will notice themes and guide them without needing to ask tons of questions. I wouldn’t bribe or try to talk him into it, just let it be 100% his decision.

Does any one have any tips for Hand Foot and, Mouth Disease? My son has it but, only inside his mouth & throat. He is in a lot of pain, so I am giving his tylenol and, motrin as recommended for pain and, discomfort. I'm also, giving him popsicles, jello, tea, honey to help...any one ever went through this with their kiddos? He is so emotional, and moody, and fatigued, I know he doesn't feel well. I just want to help him while he is letting it run its course. Poor baby. 🤒😔💔

Totally irrational so please no judgement... baby daddy is over for visitation and he took Karoline's picture and it infuriated me. I don't want him having pictures of my daughter. He just posts them on social media and claims how we keep him from Karoline and what a great dad he is even though he doesn't do shit. How do I get over this mamas? I'm really struggling with it lately. I just don't want him to have any part, seeing him with my daughter disgusts me .

@itsamemario, you deleted your post before I could hit send but this is my comment: I don’t know if this answers your question but this is my answer. My son is 7 and he knows race and color. Why? Because he himself comes from a family that is multi racial and because he has already experienced racism. I also believe as his mother it’s my job to teach him color and the cold hard truth about society. He knows what’s going on in this world. I’d be hurting him if I allowed him to blindly walk outside without this information. Children of color are being targeted and killed too. It’s not just adults. I let my son know we treat everyone equally and with respect. I let him know that we love everyone for their differences. In every aspect. Color, race, ethnicity, religion, sexual preference we love everyone.

A Statement from Mom.Life:

A Statement from Mom.Life: Hey everyone! Last night, a new user began messaging our moms asking for private pictures of toddlers and young children. This is obviously unacceptable behavior, and the account was banned immediately. Although thankfully extremely rare on Mom.Life, several users were understandably upset by this, so we wanted to clarify a few things: First off, Mom.Life has an absolute zero tolerance policy for child abuse and those who would prey on children. We strive to be a community open any supportive to *almost* everyone, but there is no grey area here for us. Those that would victimize children are not welcome in Mom.Life, period. Any behavior by any user that appears to be involved these activities will result the account immediately being banned from Mom.Life, and may result in the user being reported to the authorities. Secondly, there is no indication that any pictures from Mom.Life users were, or have ever been, taken from Mom.Life and shared outside the network for abusive or exploitative purposes. We take this EXTREMELY seriously and take proactive security measures beyond most other social networks to assure this does not happen. If we ever learn this has happened, we will alert you immediately. Specifically regarding the incident last night, the user in question did not download any pictures from Mom.Life, and only asked for such pictures to be sent to them. This is, however disgusting to us, not a crime where this user lived, so Mom.Life would be violating our privacy agreement with all of you to send their information to the authorities. Mom.Life does not share personal user information with anyone, to protect all our moms. Exceptions are only made for explicit criminal activity that threatens a user or someone else in the community, or repeated offenses that appear illegal in nature; the user last night, for instance, will be reported to authorities by Mom.Life if they ever try to join Mom.Life and engage in this activity again (and we're watching for them). Additionally, we were told that multiple users did contact the authorities, and we will fully cooperate with any investigation. If you see any behavior on Mom.Life that appears to be involved with the abuse or exploitation of children, please report it immediately! Depending on the nature of the offending behavior and where the user lives, Mom.Life may or may not be able to report it to authorities ourselves, but you are always welcome and encouraged to report what you believe to be child abuse. We will always fully cooperate with authorities to keep creeps off Mom.Life and behind bars. Thank you again to the moms who reported this incident last night for making Mom.Life a safer community for everyone! ~Lovingly (but seriously), 🎆mom.life_usa✨
