Правила за столом: дети и еда

Question just out of curiosity after a conversation..

What’s your rules when it comes to your kids sitting down to have breakfast, lunch or dinner… when your kids say they’re full, do you just allow them to be done even if they maybe had only a couple bites and you KNOW they can’t be full and they will ask for a snack as soon as you clear the table? Lol. Or do you tell them “no have a couple more bites” or even tell them “if they don’t finish their food, there won’t be any snacks later”?

They put their food in a container and in the refrigerator, incase they get hungry later. I don’t do snacks afterwards.

No snacks. Store the food for later.

We compromise. Usually just eat X more bites and you can be done and I will always allow a snack before bedtime if needed which hasn’t been the case for a long time.

I don't usually have any issues. My kiddo usually eats at least 75% of her meal because she doesn't snack before a meal, and when she's full I don't question it because I don't want her to learn to eat when she's not hungry. She can have something small and sweet after dinner and then a bedtime snack like 3 or 4 hours later.

My 2 yo is in a study right now about how early life predictors affect healthy weight, growth, and development during childhood.

We keep about 15lbs of fruit a week that they have access to whenever they want. My kids don't sit still so they take a bit and come back and forth to their food. They get the option to save it or throw it. I never ask them to take more bites. If they are hungry later, they know there's fruit or if they didn't eat the meal, sandwich or the food they saved. I won't cook another meal until the next meal time.

If he's not hungry he's not hungry but I had alot of stomach issues and so does my son so if he's not feeling the best from it I never make him eat it. But he also helps plan all our meals because of our health issues. And yes if he's not hungry at dinner but before bed then I have healthy snacks he can choose from because I totally understand dinner time I don't feel well but 7 I'm so hungry I need something small to get me through the Nighy. I wa raised you eat what I make or go hungry. I have alot of digestive issues that then made me sick ALL the time or then I didn't eat anything. I don't want that for him. I'm thankful as he's getting older he loves to sit down and help me pick dinners for the week, lunch and breakfast and it's helping that he has a choice

Noone is going to tell Me how much I have to eat. So I'm not going to tell her. There are times I go to eat and I'm like well shit I'm not hungry right now.

I also feel like u must finish ur plate leads to alot of eating disorders down the road.

If she chooses not to eat though we aren't eating shit food down the road. Have a apple.

Thanks everyone for the input! Me & my friend had a conversation on this topic & we kinda wanted to see what other people do or don’t do.

My 5 year old has recently been funny with eating.. only dinner time though. She will eat breakfast and lunch fine, and I’m making meals I know she likes.. but no matter what I put on her plate she doesn’t seem to truly want to eat. I’m not worried about her being underweight or not getting enough so I don’t usually push it. There’s been times she took a single bite from a piece of bread and I have asked her to please try to eat more bc at that point I just KNOW you’re hungry after asking for the last 30 minutes when dinner would be done and you love the meal lol. But I don’t force it and if she truly just isn’t hungry then I save the plate bc usually shortly after she will ask for her food. I also am always okay with some fruit or in her case, she LOVES broccoli so I’ll let her snack on that. I’ve never truly worried with any of my kids because they’re all really good eaters so when they say they’re full I trust their own judgements of that and they’re fine to be done, I also tell them if they think there’s a chance they could be hungry later then just save the plate and come back for it.

My mom was the type to have us finish EVERYTHING on the plate and I can specifically remember plenty of times when I was TRULY full and it sucked sitting there being forced to try to eat. I’ve always said kids aren’t stupid and won’t starve themselves to their graves so if they’re hungry, they’re going to tell you at some point and EAT lol.

@harleyquinn13, I have actually. She loves to help me with literally anything she can lol. So cooking and baking are big ones. She does it with my mom too when she goes away to her house lol. I think like you said, she’s just a really light dinner eater because she does eat so much thru the day.

depending on the day my kids are very light dinner eaters. I do offer a snack at bedtime just in case and it’s usually something with protein like a cheese stick or some yogurt.

yes we normally do a snack similar as well. I almost ALWAYS have fruit in the house.. if I don’t it’s bc I’m due to go back to the store lol. So I’m always telling my kids fruit is an option or yogurt. Things I can feel good about them having before bed & especially if they ate a light dinner. I can’t watch you barely eat dinner & then hand you some chips lol.
