Как и когда рассказать ребенку о сексе? Личный опыт мам
Question for parents with preteens or older …
How and when did you give your kids the sex talk? My daughter starts middle school next year and she’s never truthfully asked for it to be a topic of conversation like “how are babies made”. She asked when she was too little and I was honest and told her she was too young to understand and I’d tell her once she was a bit older but she hasn’t brought it up since.
I don’t wanna just walk in and spring it on her unexpectedly and shock her lol. But I also don’t want someone else’s kid explaining it in who knows what manner lol.
I just am at a loss on truthfully how to handle this or where to start.
She’s currently 11 and hasn’t started her period or anything but some of her friends have. She’s fully aware of all of that and understands and has a “period pack” in her backpack incase.
Thanks in advance 💜

You should do it now. If she’s 11 then she’s heard about it from her friends or other kids. You want to make sure she has the correct information rather than just relying on what the kids at school are saying.

That’s what I was asking, how do I go about it bc I don’t just wanna burst into her room unexpectedly and drop this all on her.. but I also don’t wanna wait for her incase she is being told whatever by friends at school. So im just not sure how to approach this with her

I THINK most middle schools have sex education class that all students take? At least the schools here do. Start there. It helps a lot. Then I told my teen I will not be a grandma any time soon and to always wrap it up cause of germs 😂😂

I definitely think they still do that in school, but I didn’t wanna wait til she got in next year to have them start with her. I figured by then if I had a talk with her, then anything they give her won’t be shocking and it can just be useful information to add with the talk and knowledge she would already have from our talk.

She was in 6th grade but she was slowly broken into sex ed in 4th and 5th grade. She is comfortable talking to me about sex and her body changes and vice-versa. She is in 7th grade now.

From an educational point of view. It is great to teach them ahead of time. From a mom’s? We tend to freak out a lil because these are our babies we’ve watched grow so quickly🫣

I think that’s my biggest problem is it feels like she’s so young and it doesn’t even feel like I SHOULD be explaining anything like that yet 😩😭 she’s starting to have crushes on boys and things so I know she’s ready, I just don’t know how to start or approach that topic. She seems comfortable with me.. she has no hesitation to discuss her crush or anything relating to periods or her body changing and is very comfortable when talking about it so I wanna say sex will be the same way with her. I just don’t wanna miss my chance to have us have the conversation before she gets some super off putting run down from one of her friends or something who got all their “facts” from an older sibling 😅

I told my daughter and son at the age of 5 and 6. That is, if they ask a direct question, I answer directly. They didn't ask exactly how the sperm gets into the egg, so I didn't tell you about it. But if they ask, I'll tell you how it is. We have such a book in Russia, it tells children about it very well. The authors of the book Yulia Yarmolenko and Mariana Gilevich

Mine had it in school. We talk about it at home. I’m very very open and honest with them about shit. Also they’re both on birth control. To help with their periods also to help prevent that because kids are dumb.

@coffeebean, They touch on sex and babies in middle school. Elementary is about learning about their bodies and the difference between male and female reproductive systems. There is also something taught earlier on, about knowing that no one should be touching your body. Probably around first grade. So that children understand inappropriate touching from any person or caregiver in their circle.

@coffeebean wow, what did your mother say that made you terrified? At 11 she's definitely ready to learn about human reproduction. Don't make it weird, lol, it's a normal and natural part of being human, or mammal, really.

she really just made sex seem like it was gonna be this god awful painful nightmare of a time and it just instantly made me terrified of the thought and then made me feel sad because I had wanted kids and then felt like there was NO WAY I was going to have kids after she said that lol. It felt more like she wanted to scare me rather than truly educate me.

A way to approach the subject is to ask what she knows. This way you guys can have a conversation, in a sense. Also, you'll learn what she knows/think she knows, and clear up any misinformation she might currently have.

Mine learned about it in 6th grade. He had sex ed this year in 7th. We also talk about it at home.

So sorry, I jump on here like once a week if that so I don’t get much chance to respond. But I appreciate all of your responses and input! I’m working on approaching this soon so I needed the advice 🫶🏼
