What are the main things kiddos need to know to get into kindergarten? This would be my sons first year in school. I’m not trying to have him in p-k when he can do so much! Plus he’ll be 5, 6 days after school starts 😳🙃

Know their letters and number, letter sounds, and how to write their name and letter and numbers, know basic shapes. That was our kindergarten requirement for public schools. Every state could be different though.

I would say if he cannot write his name, he cannot do the ABC’s he cannot do the letters & shapes it’s setting up your kid and the teacher for failure. Also, I know it’s not required to get into school but it’s best if your kid knows how to tie their shoes so the teachers not constantly tying shoes or just send them with strap on shoes.

Writing he’s still learning but he knows how to spell his name, count to 20, he knows his letters when I point them out randomly and ask. And shapes he knows them! He’s just super shy.

aww maybe he will open up. A little bit more seeing all the other kiddos! Sounds like he’s on track… they’ll give you more information on meet the teacher night or kindergarten orientation.

I think they also have to be 5 already before school starts.. my son missed the cutoff by a month last year..
