Is someone being sued something I can look up? Like public records?
Stepson hit a parked cop car, driving with no auto insurance. He says they’ve sued for $20,000 and he’s lost his license. Would they have arrested him?

I think you can get in trouble for no insurance and you cause damage to a vehicle. They can sue you to get the money for the damage but $20,000 seems excessive lol and I'm pretty sure if you're unable to provide proof of insurance you lose your license.

He would not get arrested for hitting the car unless he was under the influence. (Which would be why he could lose his license) Not sure about him being sued for that much...doesn't sound right.

@ksmommyx3, he says the cop was parked on the side of a road, he came around a curve then down a hill and rear ended it. He said a few days ago he had to pay $750 something to reinstate his license, and has to pay in full for the car, cash? It doesn’t sound right

@evildrporkchop. Yeah something doesn't sound quite right. If he had no insurance then that's why the probably suspended his license but the fee to reinstate is NO where near that much in any state. I would suspect DUI but if he didn't get arrested then IDK. Unless he really did get arrested and just never told y'all. Cash is definitely not right. He would be on a payment plan thru the courthouse. He's definitely lying or leaving something out or over exaggerating the amount to get more money from y'all? I wouldn't give nothing until I see the payment plan paper work which he should have a copy of or the receipt for reinstating his license. So weird lol

Our state has a case search website. You enter name of person and you can see any past or present court case that person has to their name

Try looking it up on your county government website. Ours has a spot for criminal and civil records you can look up by name.

1 st offense with no injuries is normally a misdemeanor charge so probably would not have arrested him.
