Random question. Are your first graders doing word problems? A few moms in my oldest’s class are complaining that their math assessment is word problems and that they need to keep math and reading separate
Yes Brody did word problems last year and all of his math thus year is alot of word problems
I’m so tired of people thinking they know better than professionally trained educators.. 😑 But anyway, yes it’s very normal. There are two different areas of math — one dealing strictly with computation and the other dealing with concepts and applications (the word problems). Mastering computation isn’t very useful if you don’t know how to apply those skills to real life situations, but go off Karens.
Yes! At the beginning of they year she told us they start like 1st day and she wasn't kidding! Most if their sheets they bring home are word problems. My kids actually speak in word problems when they talk about math! Lol
Yes, my first grader does word problems
My oldest did word problems last year. And every problem on his homework is word problems this year.
It doesn’t seem out of the ordinary to me
@lizibear84, I don’t think so either, I believe it helps with their reading and comprehension
