Yes! At the beginning of they year she told us they start like 1st day and she wasn't kidding! Most if their sheets they bring home are word problems. My kids actually speak in word problems when they talk about math! Lol

I’m so tired of people thinking they know better than professionally trained educators.. 😑 But anyway, yes it’s very normal. There are two different areas of math — one dealing strictly with computation and the other dealing with concepts and applications (the word problems). Mastering computation isn’t very useful if you don’t know how to apply those skills to real life situations, but go off Karens.

Tell them they better get used to it because word problems will never go away!! My daughter has been doing them since kindergarten. And they will continue til high school.
