What milk for my baby after AlimentumNutramigen?

Does anyone know what milk would my baby switch to once he turns 1. He’s currently on Alimentum/Nutramigen. He turned 11 months old today so I have awhile but I’m just wondering.

If you’re switching to milk then cows milk is fine. But you don’t really need to give milk as long as they’re getting healthy fats in other ways. Giving nut milks may help with the transition if you don’t want to do cows milk however they aren’t nutritionally compatible. There’s hardly any fat in the nut milks or other alternatives so you’ll still have to supplement with food.

@momofkem_sam_med, my son was very late at teeth too. Avocados, full fat yogurt, bananas, peanut butter sandwiches, scrambled eggs, oatmeal, etc are all really good options. Even though he had no teeth he would definitely still eat a bunch of different foods lol

lol my son loves bananas and peanut butter toast. He doesn’t like scrambled eggs though. I don’t think he like how they feel in his mouth lol. But I will give these others a try thank you!

my son was breastfed and literally hated cows milk. Even now he will mostly just use it for cereal. I spoke with a nutritionist for food options and would just log his food to make sure he was getting plenty of needed fats. It was super stressful bc it’s pushed so much that kids *need* milk when they actually don’t need it at all. There’s also a step up toddler formula version of most formulas to make it easier but he refused those too lol

It also depends on if he has a dairy allergy. Alimentum is usually for allergy kids

Those are the only 2 milks he’s done great on. But I’ll still probably ask for one to be safe.

because if he has a dairy allergy, he can’t have cows milk, he’s be better with oat milk. If it’s just a lactose issue, he can do lactaid

Ok thank you. I’ll be sure to mention this to his doctor when he goes for his 1 year check up

Kids don’t need milk, they need fat, which is usually why they switch from formula to whole milk because it’s got lots of good fat and calories and is a fairly easy transition. Sounds like there may be allergies with the formulas and reactions you’ve shared, so just make sure to introduce a lot of good fats into the diet. @momgroupreject listed a lot of good options! Adding avocado oil or other high fat, good oils into his meals is also a way to get more fat into diets. Goats milk may also be an alternative. It has less lactose than cows milk and some people with dairy sensitivities do fine with it.

Don’t do goat milk if he has a dairy allergy though. From what my allergist says and my kids pediatrician says kids with cows milk allergies react to goat milk as well and I don’t pacifically know why

just depends on what the specific allergy is. My best friend is not allergic to goats milk but is terribly allergic to cows milk. With very specific testing, they narrowed it down to different proteins.

I agree allergy testing is the way to go! All my kids were allergy tested by 1 years old just so we knew exactly what things we were dealing with. The struggle is real lol

If he’s on nutramigen or alimentum most likely he’s sensitive or has allergy to milk. I personally would switch him to soy milk it’s high in protein and calories just like cows milk. You can try cows milk and see how he reacts if he throws up, gets hives ect I would stop immediately abs switch to soy. All my kids had milk issues to of them were on alimentum then nutramigen and we did soy.

Also question does he handle yogurt, cheese ect just fine? If he does it’s most likely not a allergy and more of lactose intolerant and then you can just to lactose free milk 👌🏻

The last time I gave him yogurt was the same time he did the vomiting thing so I kind of been taking it easy. He does handle the yogurt bites really well though. I’m not sure if that counts

they are baked so they might not even matter. I would honestly try yogurt again and see how he does. If he throws up, hives or anything like that I would get the dr to send you to a allergist

Yesterday I went out with my boyfriend went to watch a movie, me and him don't live together yet. but point is yesterday when he was dropping me off his like sleep over at my house witch the mom and dad lives. I said no, his response was why is everyone deciding or making choices for you and their going to do the same with the baby, when I know that's not true. what he thinks is that my mom tells me not to sleep over. So he left all mad. and I felt in my heart that he went on and cheated on me and did something else with an other girl.... and it's 10:51 am now and he hasn't texted me at all. and after he dropped me off I texted him saying what I felt and nothing. I don't know if I'm over reacting or what or what should i do. do i wait until he text me?
