Polio outbreak: concerns and warnings

Found this from an article online. What in the heck is going on lately. 😩
“There may be hundreds of people infected with polio, New York health officials warned.
It comes after the virus was detected in wastewater in two counties near New York City. Orange County and Rockland county.
Officials are warning all unvaccinated adults and children to get vaccinated against polio.”

Not even sure if I ever got vaccinated for it. I lost my records a long time ago. I was worrying about trying to get the damn monkey pox vaccine lol. Not sure about polio.

Unfortunately the city is only giving out the monkeypox vaccine to men from the gay community at the moment. People aren’t worrying about it because the stigma behind it. People are also trying to label monkey pox with stds when it’s a damn virus not an std. 🤦🏻‍♀️ There have been a few cases of children getting it and a woman who caught it as well. People are treating it like it’s the next hiv. The sexual contact is just a new way that monkey pox has been spreading. It sort of became weaponized in that way which is why it’s spreading faster but it’s still contagious through respiratory droplets, close contact with people, sharing blankets and stuff etc. I’m not even scared of Covid anymore. I don’t want marks on my body lol. This s*** looks like the damn bubonic plague. Such strange times we are living in. I should have ordered a gas mask like I wanted to a few years ago. 😂🤣 oh well. Just when I started wearing my mask less, now I have to start wearing it again.

It wouldn’t hurt to get a titer test done to see if you have protection against it! I think the polio vaccine was still used as a core vaccine in the 90s.

I’m also super pissed they’re categorizing monkey pox as an std when it is not sexually transmitted. If the cases were prevalent through children it wouldn’t be classified as sexual.

Yeah that’s the sucky part. I keep telling people to be careful and everyone out here in NYC especially that travels a lot and hangs out a lot is like, “oh know it’s only affecting gay men.” I’m like oh no it’s not, everyone could eventually get it just like the way Covid spread. Even some of my relatives who live overseas and in other states are saying the same thing smh.

I have to try that test. Thank you for letting me know. I hope my mom got me vaccinated for that. I’m gonna ask her lol. I hope she remembers.

@bigfatpigswithakingkong, it’s spreading the way that chicken pox spread back in the day…. It just so happened the first cases came amongst the gay community after having intercourse. That does NOT make it an STD. Swabs taken from isolation patients has shown the virus in high touch areas like the toilet handles and sinks. This is just further stigmatizing that community as a whole and it is sad.

My mom never got me vaxxed for chicken pox bc it wasnt a core vaccine when I was little and she assumed I had it. They did a titer test when I was pregnant and found I had no immunity to it. I’m sure it wouldn’t even hurt to get a booster of it now either even if it takes a while to get your titters checked. I’m hopeful that since found in waste water, nobody was actively swimming in it or consuming it.

I grew up in rockland county. Unfortunately there is now a very big population in both orange and rockland that is choosing to not vaccinate. This is also why measles showed up a few years ago in rockland. 😩

@icebergahead, I have to wait until I have my insurance working to see my doctor again. I haven’t had my insurance for 1 year now. I’ve been having problems with Medicade. I think there may be a place about 2 miles away that I can try getting the booster shot. I’m gonna try that this week.

@bigfatpigswithakingkong, I got mine at Costco! The first booster, not the second. I didn’t know a second booster was recommended for all yet? But I actually didn’t get any of my vaccines through my doctors office lol
