Am I your maid?
Just because it’s summer doesn’t mean I’m your maid. You’re gonna still be on that practical life learning tip. #montessorimomma

Bed making is very important. One of the first things we do here. I like this.

Me and William and even igancio and Luna do this daily! We always make sure to practice good hygiene and always making sure room's are cleaned at night. Some people don't realize also having a kid on the spectrum can take them months or even years to get this down so we make sure to make this a daily priority of ao many subjects!

Rules are good but, they really are only little so fast and summer time should be spent enjoying each moment you can especially if you have to work still and maybe your child has to go to day camp “my youngest is 5yrs old , about to start kindergarten this aug ;( my middle son is 19 graduated hs last June and my oldest son is 26 he moved out 3 yrs ago and to another state ,trust me time flies U will miss the noise 1 day ,you will miss them cuddling in bed or on couch to watch a movie ,they won’t forget the times u played cars on floor or painted with them or picnics just because ,”1 of my sons best friend had brain cancer from age 5-7th grade he passed away so I remember this always we rush them to be independent at times “and sometimes it’s never enough time we get with our children “

@fairykarmamomma, All parent’s should teach their children by certain ages children how to be responsible and clean their own rooms , put their laundry in a basket and even wash their own clothes by 4th grade . I personally taught my older son’s this and much more . We can’t expect a school to teach them day to day basic thing’s . Regardless if your a Montessori parent.

@fairykarmamomma I completely agree. I think adults have a tendency to grossly underestimate a child's capabilities, I say teach them while they actually want to learn, lol, cuz later on it'll seem like pulling teeth to get them to do anything, and get them to do it without complaining.
I do believe that every parent has their own time frame, but as long as you aren't abusing your child or expecting them to deep clean the house and wash the baseboards and the gutters, they'll be fine. Some children become adults and don't know how to make tea.
Responsibility for self is a lesson that serves them greatly and it's an absolute bonus if they learn early; these things become habits that aren't easily broken. Also, them learning these things will not interfere with their childhoods, and they will 100% appreciate it when they are older

exactly! Everything you said and then some. If you think about it, it wasn’t that long ago when schools(especially high schools) taught the basics in places like home economics and woodshop. We even had a class on how to fill out a job application for the first time, how to write a check etc. I even had drivers education at school! The traditional public education system has pretty much stopped teaching the basics except in private and Montessori environments like my sons public charter. Nothing wrong with making sure that our kids do age appropriate tasks before they get their electronics. So many kids hide on their video game consoles all summer and then go back to school and have regressed. Some of us parent’s actually care about that piece too.

Thank you so much for this! My daughter has been home this week on some type of screen for over 4 hours a day!
