I’m turning 40 November 4th . My mother in law is getting married to her 5th husband on November 5th. I plan on a getaway because 40 is a big birthday and I’ve never celebrated a birthday. So I’m not wrong for missing her wedding right? FYI it will be in court with dinner after. She knew it was my birthday weekend but planned date anyways.

@mmgarcia81 I don't have anything to say following that statement except; let us know how your trip was when you get back, and happy birthday! I personally could not forego my special plans to celebrate something for someone who doesn't take what they are participating in seriously. Marriage isn't suppose to be like underwear. I went to Hawaii, for my first time, ALONE on my 30th birthday…. The only thing I was worried about, was missing my brothers treatments -(but we talked it out until I felt comfortable enough to leave)- and I had a F*CKING BLAST!

@mmgarcia81 Thank you! It was. It was spur of the moment but well worth it! I got in some beautiful ocean water, went snorkeling, hiking, surfing, even a Honolulu dinner cruise. I did have to work remotely for a few hours during the weekend, but we’ll worth the 10 days away! I would highly suggest all women do a trip like this for themselves 🤍
Five times??! Not trying to shame, but Jesus! Personally, I would get her a really really nice gift, give it to her early and tell her that you had this weekend booked, and that it’s important to your mental health. That you’ve been looking forward to the 40th birthday for a long time. Just word everything as kindly as you can, and leave it at that.
